Inquisitor's colour scheme

Hi all!

I've decided to make a Xeno Hunting inquisitor to ally with my Dark Angels, and to act as the centrepiece of an Elysian drop troop regiment. I'm saving an old model from my youth that used to look like this...

He has been stripped, a decorative 40mm basse has been made, and he has been pre-primed grey, like this...

Now, for my Dark Angel army, I'm painting an army badge on certain squads like this....

This badge represents the 'Purge of Paramar V' campaign (a canon planet, and inquisitorial action no-less!).

I intend to use the army badge on my guard, but somehow I'd like to tie it into my inquisitor models colour scheme itself. I have some ideas, and would love some feedback. Do I?..

A) Paint the inquisitor bone white, and do the 'I's in green? Or will this be too Deathwing (given that I will eventually have Deathwing in my list)

B] Just paint the belt buckle in my army badge colours, and do the rest in reds, golds and blacks? (OR will this look too messy?)

C) Paint the shoulder in bone and green , and do the rest in reds, golds and blacks? (OR will this look too messy?)

D) Forget the army badge on the inq himself?

Also, if I dont go bone, anybody seen inquistorial terminators in a particular nice colour? I'm torn between gold or red, if I dont go for bone....

Thanks all!

:)

Just an update. Decided to paint the bulk of his armour purple. I'm pretty happy with the face, although the camera makes the lower half look darker thatn it actually is! I'm also pleased with the base. Any c&c appreciated...

UPDATE!

PICTURE REMOVED, updated below...

The outside of the pistol arm still to be done, but I'm trying to work on the bits I cant access before I stick it together. Then I can stick it together and work on the arms whilst they're insitu, thus try and make a consistent light source. Any thoughts, C&C etc appreciated...

Wow.. Its good to see your work again. Still remember your awesome DA's before B&C went down. ;)

To tie him with the DA's paint one of his shoulder pads bone and paint the =I= on it. Cant think of a better method, oh well, give him a DW dagger, or would it be unfluffy?

I may be missing something here, but whats that phone-pad like thing on his leg? :)

It's old skool GW sculpting craziness! At least it beats the 'bling' details present GW sculpts are covered with. Mystery tech panels might have a purpose methinks, more than yards of gold chain anyway

Love the purple,

What color is it?

Undercoat Citadel Dark Flesh

Basecoat Citadel Liche Purple

Purple ink glaze

Foundry 'Royal Purple Shade' edge highlights

Blend down to Citadel Lich Purple

Just a WIP update, so you can get an idea of how the final colour scheme is going to look

Update...

I'm entering him in a local painting comp tommorow, just to see how he fares (my Xeno stuff is better, but I'd like to improve my power armour benchmark). I need to get the powerfist arm finished by Saturday afternoon. Motivate me/c&c me etc etc.

Thanks guys...

thats a beutiful model...the purple it so smoothe and the skin tone is very bright...and i love the bionic conversion...my only thing that might be a little disparing is that...dont you know that Dark Angels cant take inquisitors of any kind or any aid from Deamon Hunters? If you got the ok from your local gaming pals its ok but it breaks fluff for DA. Awsome model though and i hope you win that competition

Firstly, thanks guys :). I think the trick to the purple is to keep the tonal range quite small, as it's a striking enough colour without super 'pinging' highlights!

However...

According to the old DA codex, it's true that you can't take Inq allies. However, If I recall correctly, the Daemon hunter & Witch Hunter codices both state that you can, but the 'Hunt the Fallen' rule is suspended. As these two codexes are most recent, they supercede the rules presented in the DA codex I believe. The DA codex is old & sucky enough compared to 'traits' marines & newer codices, without being further hamstrung by additional troop selection restrictions. I'll try and get additional clarification on this though.

Model-wise, I've only got to finish the bone shoulder pad and & touch up the green I for tommorow (2pm). 8am start should see it done inside an hour, I hope!

It looks incredible.

One itty bitty problem though...

As a Son of Russ I follow the less trustworthy chapters pretty closely and i don't have it here, but i'm pretty certain that the 4th ed FAQ for the DA said they couldn't take allies in any way shape or form.

Someone want to back me up here?

Part from that it looks amazing, it'd fit in with Guard really easily me thinks.

I hate it when the FAQ's contradict various codexes. Have a look at the Daemonhunters codex, page 21, grey box (the Dark Angel's bit is even asterixed). Then you can see where I got the idea that it was OK to ally DA with INQ. That being said, I'll stick with FAQ interpretation as it's probably the most recent document.

That being said, I can always use the DA models as allies to my inq force, I'd just have to use vanilla marine rules. :)

Fluff-wise, it's not that bad, as I'm sure even the Dark Angels can be co-opted by the inquisition when required, irrespective of the whole 'hunt-for the-Fallen thing'.

It doesn't matter about it being contradictory...

It's the newest version of the rules that applies, in this case the FAQ.

Yes, I know. What I'm saying is that the DH codex is really poor! This isn't just an implied contradiction, or a little one, it's a blatant one! Thus ultra annoying...

i.e Codex A says you can ally with Codex B

Codex B says it CANT ally with Codex A

Codex A is newer so it takes precedent... but then...

FAQ C says Codex A is wrong!

I just wish GW had thought it through properly when they wrote the DH codex. I'm not disputing that you cant take Inq allies with DA, but just stating that it's incredibly bad writing, that causes needless confusion

Before...

AFTER!

Finished mini :P

C&C, as always, appreciated. I'm not 100% happy with the bone, but given the time constraint I'm happy with how it turned out. I can always come back later, if I feel like it
