WIP Mortifactors Chaplain

Reading the article in the latest WD on the Mortifactors, I sort of fell in love with their fluff. Death-crazed cannibals with iconography of skulls and more death galore - what's not to like? So I set about converting a model or two from my bits box, just to check out if I actually enjoyed working with them, or they were to stay inside my head as one of the numerous ideas I have that just never grow real. Here's what I came up with.

He's not quite done - I still haven't done his Crozius, and I haven't decided on a Jump Pack or backpack with bannerpole for him yet. Time will show, methinks.

Looks like a great start! I really like the placard. Nit pick: it seems to me like he'd have it facing forward. He has a very thrusting motion to him which with the text/image going off to the side could come off as using it like a crutch to pull himself along.

Thanks for the kind words... and yes, Angron's Chosen, all those skulls were indeed hell. Took about five hours to cut and glue them all.

While the black primer dried, I built a Crozius for him. As he already has a rather large object in his right hand, I decided to create it more in the style of a Badge Of Office, rather than a weapon, to balance the model a bit.

As for the model itself, paintwork will commence within the next few hours. I'll post updates along the way.

Very nice, when he gets on the table the enemy will probably soil themselves before first turn. I really can't wait to see him don, and what else you convert for this army. ((Hello many more skulls.))

I could see maybe a skeleton torso and arms and head on the banner thing a sort of 'portable left overs' sort of thing.

Im diffinately feeling it man, the makeshift cross piece in his right hand is a good touch. and btw you didnt have to go through all that trouble to make that base, you can buy skull bases online(a whole morti. army on skull bases would look sick!!).

P.S.: that sig link is hilariously random, KUDOS to that and the model

Thanks for all the comments!

@ FaeLi-N; All those skulls come from about ten Chaos Vehicle Accessory sprues, and a bucketload of patience :P

@ Svarte Hanske; A little graphic there, I feel...

@ flakm0nkey; Skull bases, hmmm... Forge World? If you have a quick link I'd appreciate it - to busy painting to look for myself! As for the sig, yeah, I kinda enjoyed that randomness the first time I got it too :P

Speaking of painting; I'm quite finished with the base, take a look, y'all.

OK. It's 05:35am and I find myself having gone as far as I can with this model for tonight. I'll continue tomorrow. Here's the current status for your viewing pleasure;

Very cool, but I think Mortifactors should be done up in a more tribal style. They're headhunting cannibals, after all. I think one of my next GD entries will be a squad of Mortifactor headhunters decked out with shrunken heads, severed ears and eyes and other fetishes & totems, feathers, animal pelts, etc.
I'm not one to sling criticism around, and am hardly going to start here. This is a very nice conversion. That being said, when I look at it, I get the feeling that the bottom half of the banner pole (or whatever it is) is a bit thick, both for his hand, and for the upper half. Good luck on this as it could very easily turn out to be one VERY cool mini.
Uhm... Look at the colour of the tabard. I'm afraid that will turn out to be skin (TAU-skin, I hope...) by next paint-job. Scary!

Tau skin is blue and fishy, and if there's something I won't develop this tabard into, it's blue and fishy... in fact, the tabard is mostly done. Just some highlighting and darkening the recesses, and I'll consider it done.

Mostly done conversion- and list-work today... as such, I have decided that Jump Packs and this fella ain't for each other. As he has already gotten both feet well planted into the OTT-ballbark, i decided to build on that and give him a banner to go with it. It will contain some sort of freehand of which I am not yet certain what will be. I've also done some touching up and highlighting on the tabard and chain/Rosarius. Here ye go.
