The Eydimus Defense

Imagine an army that represents the scarred but ready defenders of a hopeless battle. Against all odds, various tattered squads of marines hailing from different chapters band together and launch a final, daring assault and win the day... for the time being. Now unified as a band of brothers during the horrors of war, these marines continue to fight on together, triumphing over any odds.

[EDIT: Ok, Back for more.]

So, in essence, this plan would involve randomly determined squad sizes, and randomly determined orginization chart choices. Once assembled and painted, they'd remain that way: while I'll have different units, the units themselves will be as "set" as possible (granted this may mean adding or subracting the odd marine here or there; but it's all in the looks.

This is what I have in Mind:

Standard Space Marine codex, no traits.

For standard missions, Roll once on Table 1: HQ then twice on Table 2: TROOPS. Afterwards, rolls on Table 3: OTHER CHOICES, then roll as appropriate. Do this until points are filled.

For squads with a 5-10 limit, the number of members in the squad is 4 + D6. A heavy weapon, special weapon, and sergeant may be selected on a D6 roll of 3+.

For squads with a 3-5 limit, roll a D3: 1 = 3-man, 2 = 4-man, and 3 = 5-man. A heavy weapon, special weapon, and sergeant may be selected on a D6 roll of 3+.

For squads that are 1-3 models, simply use D3 models. Weaponry and leaders may be assigned as desired.

TABLE 1: HQ

Roll / Choice

1-3 / Commander

4-5 / Chaplain

6 / Librarian

+TABLE 1b: HQ level

Roll / level

1-4 / 2 wounds

5-6 / 3 wounds

TABLE 2: TROOPS

1-3 / Tactical Squad

4-6 / Scout Squad

TABLE 3: OTHER CHOICES

1 / Roll again: 1-5 it's ELITES (TABLE 4), 6 it's a second HQ (TABLE 1, 1b).

2-4 / TROOP (TABLE 2)

5 / FAST ATTACK (TABLE 5)

6 / HEAVY SUPPORT (TABLE 6)

TABLE 4: ELITES

1 / Roll again; 1-3 Terminator Squad, 4-6 Terminator Assault Squad.

2-4/ Veteran Squad

5 / Techmarine

6 / Roll again; 1-5 Dreadnaught, 6 is Venerable Drednaught.

TABLE 5: FAST ATTACK

1-2 / Land Speeder Squadron

3-4 / Assault Marine Squad

5 / Bike Squadron (has an attack bike on a 5+).

6 / Attack Bike Squadron

TABLE 6: HEAVY SUPPORT

1 / Predator Destructor

2 / Predator Anihlator

3-4 / Devastator Squad

5 / Roll again: 1-3 Vinicator, 4-6 Whirlwind

6 / Roll again: 1-4 Land Raider, 5-6 Land Raider Crusader

There we go! Still working on Transport randomizing...

'Course, maybe I'm just being over-doing and should just make an army, and paint all the squads differently without randomizing... so i don't waste money and etc...

well i think it seems like a fun way to maybe not make a DIY army but maybe mess around with mission or 2...imagining a force put to ruins and now all of a sudden there is another onslaut and they pull everyone they have ...this could make some interesting games and just change tactics every time

FF;I have a few thoughts about this of my own.

For what its worth:

1)How competative do you want this army to be?

Ever going to think about tournaments?

2) You might want to consider the dice rolling aspect of building your squads.

3)I love this idea generally, but give some thought to making squads small/or large ,for a reason.

Keep it fluffy if you want;*these devastators from"....." chapter are down to five men after a resulting battle they were in.

4) You may want to consider mixing squads;ie.three marines from"...." chapter along with two from "...." chapter ,band together to form a new tac squad of useable size.

5) maybe everyone keeps their original armour colours but has a unifying shoulder pad colour or marking to distinquish their new chapter formation?

Just somethings to think about..

Geb

Wow, quick replies!

1- A tourney... I dunno; I enjoy friendly play more.

2- Yeah, been thinking on that too.

3- See 2. :P Not a bad idea.

4- Not a bad idea either; certainyl not everyone would be conveniently a minimum of five survivors!

5- That's what I was thinking (I forgot to post it; I guess great minds think alike. )
