Ultramarines

Recommended Posts

Well here's a blog to encourage me to get my ultras ready for the summer.

First here's two completed models:

Assault sarge:

Venerable Dreadnaught (In need of some banners and Parchments but finished for the moment):

And a WIP of my Chaplain Conversion. He's pretty basic, but If he starts winning a few fights I may upgrade him to a nicer model:

Currently In progress:

5 Devastators at final paint stage

5 veterans at starting paint stage

Captain at starting paint stage

5 veterans at conversion stage

8 Tacticals at conversion stage

I will get more pictures as I progress, and some more of my finished models. Comments on the models currently on show is appreciated.

Wow. I love that assault marine. He got an very smooth transition of the colours on the armour.

And the dread made me think of Jason Vorhees.

Cant comment on the Chaplain as the picture is too dark.

Those minis look cool.

That dread looks awsome, all i'd say was to move the defiler mask forward more from the sargophagus because it looks abit swamped.

Keep it up always good to see ultramarines

really nice, the dread looks kinda like it's a bit midgety(but I'm having a nit picky day for some reason and other than that i rules teh schizzy).

I confess that i also must paint many things for Medusa V, including re painting some repaitned guys.

Thanks for the comments guys. The dread is a bit smaller than the normal size dread, and hopefully some parchment hanging from the shoulders and a banner will make him look a bit bigger. That will have to wait for a tiny while until my first 1000 points are painted. More photos later tonight.

I have to say, the assault marine pic is very nice, but it looks a lot nicer in real life. I love the blue on the legs.

Is that someone from GW kingston? Identify yourself sir, or I may consider you a model stalker! ^_^

I was thinking of putting that it looks better IRL, but its put so often I think its kinda a given.

There is an excellent sense of movement in that assault marine, well done

Have you got any more Assault Marines done? If they are done to the same standard as that first one, it'll be an amazing squad ^_^

Its a bumpdate!

Captain Galenus without any paint:

Veteran conversion. Done because I didn't want two vets the same. Plus mark IV is the coolest armour ever. Maybe not, but its easy to do.

Some tacticals converted to add some variation, plus my infiltrating veterans heavy bolter dude, Done so it looks lighter and moe infiltratish.

One can say you are not affraid to go for it and convert whatever you can. ;) are you in time to finsish your army?

A few comments:

- the left shoudlerpad on the captain is way too plain compared to the very ornamental rest of the model

- while I like a lot the HB marine idea, the right arm holding it (the wrist part) is very weird. The arm looks kinda too long...

A whole army of these unique marines would for sure look great on the table top!

Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments all.

@Zgar: I was gonna do some freehand on the captains shoulder, but I think you may be right about the pad. I've got some bits hanging around that I can use to pimp it, plus I may sculpt a U

@BL: I'm planning on giving the dread some banners, which should make him look bigger. If that fails I'll look into the metal spacers idea.

And now its update time:

Tactical squad 4, with their original bolter toting sergeant and their new powerfist toting sergeant. The bolter toter will be renegated to the devastator squad once I get another tac marine painted.

Tactical squad 5, the obligatory six man laz/plas squad. I didn't really want to take one of these, but in the end I had a lazcannon and a plasma gun so thought I may as well.

The whole army, Including WIP squads. I've got a scout squad, a predator and a few other bits to do, but this is what I could be bothered to fit into the picture.

What you think?

Sorry about the double post:

The chaplain has moved on a bit scince we last met:

What do we think? I've almost finished the bone, but these pictures have highlighted the need for a bit more doings in that department.

Feedback is very much appreciated, even if you hate it all.

I think I recognise a problem in your Chaplain's robe that used to plague me. Your use of ink on the robe seems quite heavy creating a glossy finish (over which It seems you've applied bleached bone again), I suggest diluting it heavily with water and adding in a drop of detergeant or something similar. Although if possible, I prefer to blend up to lighter colours on robes from the darkest shade, and then use inks to lightly smooth the transistions.

@Ahmato: The faces paint is actually very thin, it just doesn't show much of the detail in the pic due to it being black, and the bone is painted to look like its standing out, cheekbone esque.

@Gafgarion: On the crozius I've been using inks because I need some new fine drushes to do highlighting that fine. On the robes I did the shade colour, inked it, and then have built up to bone and am going back and shading, and easing the transitions. It still needs a bit of cleaning up.
