Doghouse
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/Doghouse12/Summonerslogo.jpg "Lucius Erasamus Kron, you are hereby found guilty of thirty six counts of heresy, six counts of treasonous acts and a further seventeen counts of blasphemy. You are to be taken from this court and placed in the hands of the Adeptus Mechanicus who will, with full authority as laid out in the Ecclesiarchal Law, administer the rites of Archo-Flagellation. May you find forgiveness and redemption in the service of the Emperor." Cardinal-Magister Gregorius M32 http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/Doghouse12/aaaaaaaa.jpg Portent of Doom When divining the chapter designation with the Imperial Tarot at the time of the Third Founding the name Summoners was seen to have been sign that the Chapter was destined for greatness. It was believed to have been a sign of it's battle brother's ability to summon great courage and strength against all odds, when in truth it was most likely a warning. Whilst the geneseed taken from the Ultramarines stock had been cultivated on Terra it was taken to the Adeptus Biologist research station located on a rogue asteroid designated Emperor's Light on the western plain of the galaxy. Implantation into test-bed slaves have proven successful and had it not been for the untimely death of the a lowly Adept then fate may have had other plans for the chapter. Witch Hunt Inquisitor Artor Thaddeus who had been sent to investigate what was believed to have been an accident ruled that the death was infact premeditated. Fearing that someone had intended to interfer with the development of the fledgling chapter the Inquisition authorised a full investigation. One by one the station's adepts were investigated resulting in several key members of staff being accused of blasphamey and other treasonous acts and replacements were provided at Thaddeus's discretion. Contact with the station was kept secure except for the the Inquisitor's reports and requests for additional staff. Four years after the trials and summary executions had been completed all contact was lost with the facility. A nearby Adeptus Astartes Strike Cruiser from the Black Consuls Chapter, Gulliman's Talon, was redirected to what was believed to be the asteroids current position and ordered to investigate. The Carnal Pit Apon entering the station the Marines were greeted by scenes of untold horror. The adepts had been slaughtered to a man, their bodies desecrated in unholy and horrifying ways. Entrails and organs lined the dark corridors as the Scouts advanced deeper into the facilty. Many of the adepts lay spread eagle on surgical tables, their skins flayed from their bodies, others had had their entire nervous systems stripped from their bloodied corpses and arranged in strange patterns apon the floor of the main hanger bay. All had had their eyes removed and the sockets sewn shut but the test subjects were no-where to be found, as was the station's only transport vessel. The Black Consuls Captain cautiously ordered his Scouts to retreat to their vessel fearing the corruption of the ruinous powers and requested the assistance of the Inquisition. Although the station was later designated Purgatorus and summarily destroyed by the Grey Knights some light was to be shed as to what actually happened on the ill-fated asteroid base. Doghouse
Thaddeus's Folly In the events following the incident Inquisitor Thaddeus had been revealed to have been an extremely gifted pupil of Inquisior Zaranchek Xanthus. Xanthus himself, who was executed almost century later by a team of fellow Inquisitors believed that the forces of Chaos could be harnessed and used for the good of mankind. Thaddeus however had been one of the early pioneers of one the radical factions, now identified as Horusians, that believed that a being of Horus's power could be created to turn the energy of the Warp to the benefit of humanity and unite them rather than enslave them. The death of the Adept at the Emperor's Light station had proven Thaddeus with an unforseen opportunity. As he conducted his, some might say, overzealous investigation of the station's personnel he began to replace them with like minded individuals who shared his views and philosophies and had set about creating a new order of the Adeptus Astartes shaped by his vision. Replacing the test slaves with Archo-flagellents Thaddeus had hoped to create an order that he alone could control, an order free of the restraints of the High Lords of Terra for it is thought that he truely believed that he alone could save the Imperium. Kron 653 The origins of Lucius Kron are truely lost for all time. What few records remain indicate that he had originally been a dock master tried for treasonous acts which may or may not have been falsified at the time. Whatever the truth may be he was sentenced to Archo-Flagellation and assigned to the retinue of Inquisitor Thaddeus whom he served faithfully for over six decades. This however is not the begining of the story, although most is educated speculation some believe that he may well be the man discovered in an obsure reference from an ancient archive. The report speaks of an individual "dressed in strange apparel" emerging from a long lost crypt on Terra itself and had been discovered by an Adeptus Explorator Servitor team. Although the servitors were discovered slain the man was never traced. The incident was filed away and lost in the massive archives of the Administratium. It is believed by more radical thinkers that this individual had been one of the ancient techno-barbarian warlords that ruled a domain of ancient Terra long before the Emperor had united mankind under the banner of the Imperium. It is speculated that somehow knowing that he could not defeat the radiant Emperor and his legion of super-human warriors that he must escape. Some say that he created a portal, a window in time that allowed him to avoid being slain by travelling through time but it is more likely that he had himslef placed into a stasis chamber, not knowing that his opponent was immortal, hoping to emerge when the time of the Emperor had long since passed. Whatever the method the result was the same, he emerged disoriantated his memories fragmented by the passing of time. How he found his way off Terra is not known but he eventually settled into the life of an ordinary citizen of the Imperium. The irony was that had he not been tried and found guilty then the chances are he would have lived out the rest of his life in obscurity, he would have lived a mundane mortal life as a lowly Imperial servant but fate had other plans for him. Doghouse
The Return of Kron Although the secrets of implanting an adult subject with the geneseed of the Adeptus Astartes have long since been lost Thaddeus used this knowledge to forge an army of Archo-flagellents into the super-human warriors with which he would restore order to the universe. Thaddeus had long been critisised for his fanatical judgements and had become reknown for his requests to the Ecclesiarchal courts for those he found guilty to be given a second chance in the service of the Imperium as Archo-flagellents. In hindsight it has become clear that over the centuries he had gathered over five hundred subjects and hidden them at secret locations throughout the Imperium. Kron, being the most worthy subject and least modified of his brothers had been chosen to lead the Summoners answering only to Thaddeus himself. Tests were prepared to infuse the newly created battle brothers with the energies of the Warp but before the trials had begun Kron lead his brothers in open revolt. Faced with the full fury of over five hundred newly initiated Astartes the station's staff, along with Thaddeus were slaughtered by their creations. It was first suspected the the ruinous powers of chaos played some part in the revolt but later examination by members of the Ordo Malleus found no trace of the corrupting forces of Chaos. For whatever reason, whether there had been a flaw in the implantion process, long dormant personalties awoke. Whether it was the strains of their transformation process or the sheer force of will the augmented brains of the test subjects began to remember everything about their former lives. Most of the brothers were driven mad by the experience, tortured souls wrongly accussed of treason raged throughout the complex murdering all that stood in their path, descrating the corpses of the dead and eventually turning on each other. A number of around two hundred of the strongest willed initiates however, many formally brutal murderers or convicted criminals, retained their sanity. It was these men that Kron lead to mercifully exterminate their tortured brothers before removing all trace of their presence and escaping in the station's transporter. Doghouse
Any comments or suggestions on what I should change or drop altogether welcome. :) I'm going to be using the standard Codex: SM for these guys rather than the Chaos Codex as they're renegades or marauders rather than true blue Chaos Marines. ATSKNF will probably represent their loyalty to Kron and his vision of a new empire free of Imperial bureaucracy and oppression. Was thinking of using Scout rules for Servitors (Summoners override control of Servitors before attacking Imperial Facilities to grant them access or sabotage defence installations) and allowiing use of the Archo-flagellents as allies from Witch Hunter codex and maybe Inquisitorial Stormtroopers as local PDF defectors or Mercenaries or something. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/87767-index-astartes-summoners/#findComment-1019001 Share on other sites
