LupoLoopy
Having been inspired by Evilrik's Fallen, I wanted to know what techniques you guys were using to make smooth shoulder pads? Are you taking the nobble pads & sanding them smooth (sounds like a lot of work) or carving & filling normal pads? Anybody out there (including you Evilrik!) got any advice? Thanks... zain
just get one of those bumpy sholder pads and take the rivets off http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e342/Zain1234/P1010155.jpg here's an example of it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88018-whats-the-easiest-way-of-making-smooth-shoulder-pads/#findComment-1015483 Share on other sites
Hemal
Just file down the rims on normal pads...you don't need anything fancier than a flat file for that... Ahmato
Just file down the rims on normal pads...you don't need anything fancier than a flat file for that... Seconded. I use a nail file to make the more smaller corrections  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88018-whats-the-easiest-way-of-making-smooth-shoulder-pads/#findComment-1015507 Share on other sites
IGInquisitor
I find taht using a nice sharp x-acto and scrapping it along the edge really gets the job done. the one thing you have to be careful of if not taking too much off so that the edges become rounded. you want a nice sharp edge on the pad. -chip Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88018-whats-the-easiest-way-of-making-smooth-shoulder-pads/#findComment-1015619 Share on other sites
Lord_Maggot
Yeah I use a knife and scrape the rim off. My latest one shown below (Yes I know the pads are wrong sides :P). http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j298/miniaturemadness/tactical.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88018-whats-the-easiest-way-of-making-smooth-shoulder-pads/#findComment-1015622 Share on other sites
Neat
I find trimming the rims off and then sanding with wet and dry works quite well. As you can see in the pic you can just make out where the rims were, but it really is flush and you wont be able to see them when its finally painted. http://www.jaded-souls.co.uk/da/images/pre_heresy1_wip.jpg Again, sorry for the bad pic :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88018-whats-the-easiest-way-of-making-smooth-shoulder-pads/#findComment-1015650 Share on other sites
