Rogue Trader
sniff sniff. hmmmmmmmmmm smells like melta. :cuss Or not. Maybe you should leave it to the mods to decide which threads should get the melta. :) I'm moving this to PC&A, as they'll be able to give you more expert advice. LupoLoopy
For a compact with an excellent macro function (best compact I've used for it anyway) on a budget, you cant beat the Pentax Optio S4. Plus it makes an excellent battle rep camera too! REVIEW It seems to have been replaced by the S5i though. Same lens, bigger sensor (5mp vs 4mp). DV8
More megapixels, the better. Although you don't need an obscene amount. 5 will do. You also want a camera with both a Macro function, and the ability to turn the flash off. You won't necessarily need zoom, but look for something with a decent amount, so you don't have hold the camera so close to the model. Also, I would recommend a digital camera. Pretty obvious. You keep the shots you want, don't waste money on prints, and greater memory capacity. I am a link. Click me! That's the camera I own, although it's semi-matte black and not silver. With the right rig for photography, an amazing camera (and even without the rig, fantastic for everyday use). Rorschach
sniff sniff. hmmmmmmmmmm smells like melta. :) Wow, what an obscenely informative message! It reminds me of the old spam saying, "I just know this is going to get shut down soon so I better post while I still can!" Back on topic... I use a Canon Digital Ixus 750, and I'm extremely satisfied with it. Although I'm nowhere near a good photographer, I still manage to get quite good and clear shots with it - it's a rather forgiving camera. It's got a macro, it's got easy menus, though the transfer-to-PC-process is somewhat clumsy. marcus
I use a fuji finepix s5000 and it works admirably for most things. It has a macro function and reasonable zoom. I think it's been superceded by the 5500 model now though. StratoKhan
I use a Nikon D2X Digital SLR, and all that power is absolutely wasted on me! I only have access to it through someone else, as it's extremely expensive, and for my purposes it really overperforms. I suggest you think more in terms of technical skilll rather than any individua camera's merits. What I mean by this is simply that while a camera is important, the proper setup (as DV8 mentioned) is essential. With an amazing camera you can still come up with poor pictures just by having a poor setup. I think that the most important things you need are a tripod, two lights, and a background. There were several articles that go over the basics, this one being a very good one that was recently posted on the PC&A. Also consider getting a program where you can change brightness/contrast, and color balance. I suggest you buy something not overly expensive, practice with it and with the right setup you'll produce great pictures. Maybe this one? Once you get better, you might consider moving up to a Nikon D50. Definitely for the future though.
