The Sons of Iphicles

Geneseed:Salamanders.

Homeworld:Gideon V;lava planet,feral.

Combat doctrine:Defence and counter attack.

Organisation: Heavily divergent. There are actually 2000 marines in the chapter. 1000 'crusaders' and 1000 'defenders'. In theory there is one Chapter Master but in practice, there are 2 chapter masters. The actual Chapter master is Scythius but but the Master-Captain is Leodrin. The main reason for this is because of the disaster on their homeplanet so they are prepared for heavy losses. The chapter master prefers to campaign outside his homeworld. The 1,000 who stay back at Gideon are mainly recruits and the better part of the librarium, as well as over half the tank division. Scythius has apparently lived for over 1000 years , using Iphicles equipment which is from the Dark age of Technonlogy , though these rumours are unfounded

This isnt bad at all, but then again I am a sucker for Salamanders offshoot Chapters. However, this doesnt mesh well with the idea of having 2K marines within the Chapter. The Sals are notorious for being understrengthed (current GW background never really explains why) that and its not exactly kosher to have that many Marines under one banner. Now granted the arguement could be made that the BT and the SW have more than the allocated number allowed but those are extreme cases. What I might suggest is that you have maybe 1100 to 1200,...the rest be Marines that are no longer capable of fighting (there wouldnt be alot of these guys) and the rest be Scouts/Initiates,...sort of a pre-Scout status. Just a thought, hope it helps.

Good point Xcil, but they have had plenty of time to recoup their losses. I believe their recruiting practices and homeworld have alot to do with why they are usually just at strength. Nocturne isnt exactly the most hospitable planet, and they dont have as many worthy recruits. Its been a while since I read the Salamanders IA article, but I believe they only recruit from their homeworld every few years. Most of the other chapters are constantly looking for new recruits since it takes 8-10 years for a potential aspirant to fully mature and reach initiate status.

Good fluff on your DIY ezma. And, dont forget that 1000 marines is an approximate number. Most Marine chapters have more than 1000. Maybe not 2000, but then again there are the Black Templars who are approximately the size of a pre-Heresy Legion, according to rumor.

Lol thanks for the help guys. The reason for 2000 marines is mainly because they are near Cadia in posistion and often suffer casualties, so much that they will only have 1,500 on active service due to the amount of casualties they take.

Also i chose Salamanders because they're almost never used so i thought it would be interesting

I understand, but if you want to stay within the realms of accepted GW background, I would drop the number lower; thats all. There seems to be a new wave of individuals that have Chapters that have more than 1k in them ( I am guilty myself; larger amounts of Scouts squads and non-active Marines used primarily for training and the Fleet.)

Something else you could say is that 1 or 2 of your Companies are on Crusade and they havent been heard from in a while. Many different explanations could be given for this (too close to the warp, all Librarians are killed,...many possibilities) They are nopt considered dead, but listed at the time as unknown. Just a few thoughts hope they help.
