Hrvat
After geting replys from you fine gentlemen I went to refine my fluff. This is the second edited version that has differences to the original. I have finally chosen the name for my marines. Instead of anything fancy I have decided to use the animal from my own heraldry. As before I would like to hear your coments on my work and any possible suggestions on how to refine it further. Without further dealy here you go. Index Astartes Gray Falcons ORIGINS The Gray Falcons are one of the recent additions to the Imperial military apparatus. They were founded during the early phases of the 26th founding along with 8 more chapters as a reward for the astonishing service records of several chapters during the Kunlun Heresy that saw an entire sector denouncing Emperors rule. It is not exactly known when the order for their creation was given but the earliest date of their mentioning is 751.M41 when their founding parade was held in front of the High Lords of Terra. Soon after this parade Gray Falcons turned their ships in the direction of Segmentum Pacificus and ever since have been fighting in crusades to spread the glory that is the Emperor. The majority of the original members were recruited from the uncounted masses of pilgrims threading the holy soil of Terra. Though this may seam as a strange ground for recruiting young pilgrims were actually perfect candidates. Their faith in the Emperor was already strong and only those who were strong in both body and mind could survive to reach the recruiting age in the endless queues stretching from the Imperial palace to one of dozens space ports. The core of the chapters personnel was provided by chapters in whose honour they and other 8 were created. The first chapter master was Almoran Purge a former captain of the 8th company of the Angels Porphyr chapter. The majority of other officers was provided by the War Bearers chapter whose member was current chapter master Morva Kromos that previously served as chapters Master of Sanctity and before that as War Bearers 6th company chaplain. HISTORY The Chapters first recorded action was during the Mindoro offensive that lasted for 40 years and saw the demise of an Ork empire. As they took part in further campaigns older chapters came to respect young Gray Falcons for they showed relentless optimism and belief in humanity unseen since the days when He walk among His children. Worlds were liberated from the heretic and the xeno and there was talk of another crusade such as was led by St. Solar. This all was to change. In orbit of Natuna, a world in north-west of Segmentum Pacificus men and materials were gathered for the crusade that was planed to carry on where St. Solar have stopped. For months order to embark upon it was being upheld and some unrest has crept among the troops but was generally believed that there was just some administrative clause that first had to be fulfilled. Than at the start of the 20th week of the wait ships started firing upon each other and troops on the ground changed their allegiances, banners of the foul gods flying in unnatural wind. Shocked and appalled by this act of basest treachery Gray Falcons were overcome with rage most holy. Leaving their allied Navy forces to deal with traitorous ships they dropped in full force to the planet surface to reinforce those who were still loyal and cleanse the filth of heresy from Natuna. Long bloody weeks passed but mile by mile traitors were pushed back towards Gerlan, Natunas Capital. There Master Purge led his remaining men into the final assault. The city burned and in its fires the heresy was dieing. In the palace of the planets governor the greatest surprise awaited. Marines of the Alpha Legion traitor legion ambushed Purge and his remaining 300 companions. Bitter close quarter battle ensued with holy blood of Astartes flowing like water. It was clear that Gray Falcon could not best their enemies in a trap so well devised and so Master Purge ordered his men out of the palace and he alone went deeper into the palace to uphold the honour of the chapter or die trying. Hours passed as marines waited in silence outside the palace. From time to time screams and gunfire could be heard from within but there was no sign of their Master. Then as sun rose from the horizon brother We Lin was struck with a vision from the Emperor. Light blazing from his eyes he charged into the darkness of the palace, though surprised by his action others followed. It is not just the duty of the chapter master to uphold the honour of the chapter but of every marine as long as he draws breath. Gray Falcons carved their way into the depths of the palace until they reached the Library. There on the floor lay the broken body of their master his spine snapped and on the far end of the chamber a portal in front of which a monster stood. Severus6
This is pretty good, I especially like the part about the pantheon of Primarchs. You could possibly go even further with this by saying that the traitor primarchs represent a lower "hell". Each one of them representing a flaw or failure that the Marine should guard against. Two things; I like the idea of recruits from Terra, ie; Pilgrims from everywhere but how many children do you think will be in that. Also, do they continue this practice. Also, it may be simpler to say that the 8 men chosen from different chapters were from the same geneseed. I believe most were, if I read that right, and if that is the case simply state it. R. Guilliman or whoever,...that being said that individual would hold greater signifigance within the pantheon,... or not. Entirely up to you. Just a few thoughts, hope it helps. Hrvat
Thank you on your replies. Thanks on the suggestion Heru. To Severus6: I find the "hell" idea extremly apealing and I think I will try and incorporate it into the fluff in the form of a set of trails placed before a marine first when he joins the chapter and than when he acends to every next level. I have in mind something along the lines of "chambers of flaws" that marine must pass. Each chamber would represent a different flaw representing one of the fallen primachs. Since space is an acomodation my chapter lacks it will be a virtual chalenge. About what you said on pilgrims and children. I think there will be a fair few kids among the pilgrims since there are hundreds of millions of them. On the matter of geneseed of the senior officer I must say I haven't thought about it but since my marines do not concern themselves with their origins I belive it is irrelevant. Any suggestion for the name? I went through the topic on the top of the page and found that name maker and have found some interesting names what do you guys think would suite my chapter best? Atomic Owls Ice Raptors Storm Angles[this might fit the fluff #1] Emerald Wasps Furious Sons[this might fit the fluff #2] Sons of Fury[this might fit the fluff #3] Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88294-gray-falcons/#findComment-1017984 Share on other sites
Severus6
"The Knights Angelus?" by Heru Talon I think of all the names listed, this seems to catch all of the "feel" you seem to want. DOGGED
Got some names: -War/Battle/Emperor's Pilgrims referring to the first source of manpower and then the chapter's own warring "pilgrimage". Also to reflect their dedication to the emperor's faith and rightful rule and so. -Sons of the Divine Fury/Wrath which is just a variation of the last name you suggested. It's also a variation on the typical two word marine name. -Pilgrims of the Holy Emperor of Terra. -Pilgrims of the Most Holy Temple of Terra. Reference here to their terran origin and dedication to its cause. Their name of pilgrims reflects both their original manpower source and their wandering character. They are bringers of the faith, after all, be it by word of their chaplains or by fire of their weapons. -Pilgrims of the Lord. -Sons of the Lord. I like the templar like character your chapter seem to exude and think you could capitalize on that. Ideas of submission to the emperor and propagation of its faith and -rightful- dominion over the galaxy. It reminds me of the historical monastic order of the dominicans, very involved with the Inquisition. Their name would originate from the latin "Domini Canes", the "Dogs of the Lord". Very very like your chapter, representing their commitment to the cause and total submission to the Lord's mandate. Nice work. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/88294-gray-falcons/#findComment-1018424 Share on other sites
