Here are some pics of my DIY chapter of Space Marines: The Flatliners. Pardon the mold lines. Some of these guys are Macragge marines. I have since mended my ways and my newer stuff I clean those off.

C&C Welcome

Very pretty, nice scheme and very cool highlighting. I agree with SharderBlade about the cartoony look, and I simply love it, quite close to my own models.

On thing to comment on is that your paints seem a tad thick-ish, but this may be the photos. Watering down your paints is essential, especially when you do the rest of the job this well!

By the way, I dream of seeing something tank-y from your army :huh:

Personally I don't care for the chapter name, but I really like the paint scheme. I agree Brown is underused and it will definitely stand out on the battlefield. The paint seems a little thick (mostly noticeable on your highlights), but definitely not a condemnation from me as I have the same problem. My only suggestion is to go back and "carve" away some of the highlights to make them thinner. Otherwise I can't wait to see what you do next. B)

Oh, I forgot to add that I really dig the gold lettering, it adds a nice accent.

Thanks for all the compliments and comments!

Some responses:

The name 'The Flatliners' isn't a band reference. I've never heard of the band. And I admit it isn't a stong name. Likely an anachronism in 40k. But I was trying to come up with a name that went with the zig-zaggy icon (which I came up with before the name) and stopped with that. Alternate suggestions are always welcome. ;)

Colors:

Base with Scorched Brown

Armor plates-> Graveyard Earth

Armor Highlights-> Commando Khaki

Arms/Heads -> Commando Khaki Built off Graveyard Earth

Hightlights -> Bleached Bone

I go to Bone with Skull white highlights on helmets of vets and commanders.

I accomplish the gunky looking glold with Shining Gold, Brown Ink, Shining Gold drybrush. I've been attempting to age the metal because, while they take good care of their equipment, the chapter hasn't got any new gear in quite some time...

The blues are Scaly Green/Hawk Turquiose/Ice Blue or Shadow Grey with increasing amounts of Skull White added.

Part of my problem with the hightlights is that I need to mix some midtones between my highlight color and the color I'm highlighting. While I have no trouble highlighting flesh, I'm still a little lost when it comes to where to slap the highlights on power armor. Shading has always been the hardest part of a composition to me.

Typically, I water down my paints quite a bit, but, with my commander's helmet-- well... I wasn't really paying attention till the damage was done.

And I'll be happy to post pics of a tank when I've painted one. :wub:

I'm working on a write-up on the Chapter's History-- I'll be posting it in the DIY forum when I'm happy with it. :)

The Moldliners eh? :lol:

I really like your colour theme, it works really well. It's funny, because I think for some reason they look one notch better than what they should be when I look at the highlights which are a bit chunky. The colour scheme really works wonders. Good stuff.

Cheers
