Umbra Bellatores

I've been wanting to put my chapter online and see a response for a while, and finaly worked up to doing it.

Chapter name : Umbra Bellatores (shadow warriors)

Geneseed : UltraMarines successor

Homeworld : Taeralon

A Swampy deathworld. A large planet with 2 moons, and a sister planet on the same orbit path.(opposite side of the star.) There are no oceans, but vast swamp plains around a single great lake. The few areas of solid ground are contested by the few human inhabitants and the viscious draconic beasts that are native to the world. The only "safe" places to dwell are within the great trees that stand high above the treacherous ground level.

Founding : 17th founding (exact date of creation unknown)

Chapter Colors : black- boots, gloves, kneepads; codex grey- shins, chest(and groin), backpack, and elbowpads; fortress grey- thighs, arms, belly and backpack; darkangels green- shoulder plates(tac assault dev and scout only), and banners Midnight blue- shoulderplates(HQ and elites) and banner trim

(ok, thats more complicated than it really is..)

Chapter Traits : Significant Divergence

advantages:

See but dont be seen

Trust your battle brothers

Major Drawback:

Flesh over Steel

Minor Drawback:

Death before dishonor

We stand alone(fluffy reason..to be written)

(I am aware that Sbdbs and tybb are under the same..but they are also under different ones(fluff reasons) )

I chose my advantages and drawback for odd reasons.

Flesh over Steel - As a swamp world, Taeralon is -not- suited for vehicles that are landbound. A landraider would be bogged down in the mud and be lost within hours if it left the solid landmass the fortress monastary stood on. And so, for the same reason that a landraider would sink, I can see that a rino would as well, therefor the chapter's forges wouldn't be inclined to make rocks. So, few vehicles. About covers the drawback

Death before dishonor - Being from such a hard world, Umbra Bellatores are fanaticaly loyal to Timoner(the emperor) They would rather die than let their inherent weakness be seen by their beloved god (even a marine is but a bug to him?)

We stand alone(fluffy thing i want..can i take an extra drawback?) - The Umbra Bellatores do not associate with others. No guard regiments are drawn from their System(lack of population helping in these matters) The only other imperial entity they would even think about working with are the Sisters of battle, simply because a nun wielding a flamer is hot. (sorry, bad over done joke, beat me with a stick, I deserve it.

Trust your battle brothers - In a world where danger is everywhere the umbra bellatores have learned to wield the bolter as a pistol. Hanging from a rope with one hand, and firing wildly at a Skull dragon tends to teach one the finer points of shooting a bolter with one hand. (i'm planning to model this...somehow)

See but don't be seen - As stated earlier, Taeralon is a deadly place, even for a marine. Sometimes it is better to be unseen when stalking your prey. They have honed their stealthy skills to the point where they can slink about unseen even in their bulky power armor. (all veterans will take infiltrate and minimum of half the tac squads will as well)

I'm figuring on them being as sneaky as a SM can be. Trust your battle brothers is really only in to give me a legitimate reason to have a minor drawback... So many problems, and not enough slots to put them in.

Any criticism(preferably constructive) appreciated greatly

PS I'm presently writing some fluff to go with these blokes...And, wondering how i'm going to fix my friend's white clearcoat on my models' legs..maybe fog? hmm, I think i'll work with that... *wanders off hunting for cotton balls*

I would seriously consider changing your Chapter's name, when I first saw this I saw Umbrella Tores, personally, I find latin names slightly lost in Chapter Names, especially when they are totally latin. Maybe Umbra Warriors, or Shadow Dragons.

You don't have to take Drawbacks if you wish to impose them. You can only have one drawback, but still take no Allies and not use Drop Pods. I, persoanlly, have banned all units with an AV value bar Land Raiders, and all Terminators and Terminator Armour is out.

Good start!

A Swampy deathworld
This yelled "Dagobah" to me. That's not a bad thing.

We stand alone(fluffy thing i want..can i take an extra drawback?)

By the rules, no, you cannot. But it's your Chapter. :)

No guard regiments are drawn from their System

Interesting ... do all Imperial systems have an Imperial Governor? If so, would the population, even in low numbers be drawn for PDF? Maybe not off-world duty but at least for "National Guard" duty? ^_^

Just what I came up with. Not too bad. :D

If you wish to not take allies, then dont. Its your chapter do as you wish. I dont use allies, as i feel that it takes away from the feel of my army, and space maries dont need allies. If you want to limit the special, heavy and close combat weapons that are in your army, then do that too. These are self imposed drawbacks use them if you wish. They can add extra flavour to your army.

I chose not to use bikes or razorbacks. Theres no rule, just my choice.

All SM governed worlds are freed of tithes to produce regiments for guard. As far as we know there is no pdf on Baal or Fenris. The people are too primitive to be drafted to pdf.
