Hrvat
I have been wondering for some time now is the old way of recruiting full grown men still possible. For example a 2nd founding chapter holding to its traditions or any chapter suffering grevious loses but needing fresh troops fast. From what I have managed to gather most chapters have the ability to create new marines in the apothecarions of their battle barges but were they able to do that before when they were legions. I think that they could. So would it be possible for a group of lets say Night Lords to be cruseing the galaxy(not being in EoT so no gene mutation) on their ship geting new recruits the old way rather than that strange way IW were discribed to do. Severus6
Nope, that way has been lost to the Empire. Though I daresay chaos probably still attempts it, though I do not know what their success rate is. Aurelius Rex
When Fabius Bile tries it he intentionally makes it as difficult, painful (for the 'donor') and likely to fail as possible. This is supposedly to ensure that only the strongest survive the procedure, but I reckon it is really because he is a sadist who likes to hear the sound of agonised screams. :) And yes, like so many things, the Imperium has lost the ability to create marines from adults. This example of slowly degrading scientific development fits the grim future of 40K in a nutshell. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89283-recruitment-and-becoming-a-marine/#findComment-1026807 Share on other sites
Hrvat
Do we actualy know that it was lost or was it banned by papa smurf in his Codex Astartes in much a similar way how jet bikes and other stuff were. Rogue Trader
Do we actualy know that it was lost or was it banned by papa smurf in his Codex Astartes in much a similar way how jet bikes and other stuff were. :) Guilliman didn't 'ban... jetbikes and other stuff'. Why would the greatest military mind the Imperium has known deliberately refuse to use a resource available to him? Jetbikes are another example of the lost technology of the Imperium - the Adeptus Mechanicus simply no longer has the ability to create grav plates/drives small enough for one man jetbikes - they can only manage Landspeeder size. That's not to say that some Imperial Jetbikes don't still remain. For example: the DA Ravenwing was mounted entirely on jetbikes when they assisted the Crimson Fists during the battle for Rynn's World, which was in 987 or 989.M41 (I can't recall offhand), some ten years ago in the 40k calendar. I think it can be assumed that the DA, if not other chapters of similar age, still have a number of jetbikes in working order...
