retlaw83
I'm not the best painter by any stretch of the imagination, but recently I set out to paint something better than tabletop quality. In addition to giving me a break from my Orks, which I have 20 out of roughly 1 billion painted, it also gave me the opportunity to do something I haven't done before. I'm not going to say that this is a conversion, because what I added to the model doesn't rate as such, but Inquisitor Verlane is based on the SoB Cannoness model. I kept the fleur de lys on the weapons and greaves, because the official GW female witch hunter inquisitor has a couple of them on her armor. While I wanted to make the armor look nice, I also wanted to make it look worn but clean. I'm especially proud of the face; I managed to paint the scar sculpted onto the model, and I even added a pupil to her eye without mishap. It's not evident in the picture, but the flesh around her eye is darker than that of the face, making her appear tired. This goes hand-in-hand with the worn armor. I'm mostly happy with the model, but I would like to hear any suggestions. I'm also toying with the notion of changing her hair color, but I don't know what I would like it be. Raziellycas
I think that some preliminary ink wash could be helpful for highligth the model and for add deep effect in the metal zone, and if I were in you, I didn't use this kind of sand for the base Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89444-inquisitor-kay-verlane/#findComment-1028745 Share on other sites
WhiteSpeed
that scar rocks! Very good job...i love the worn look to the armour, nice work! Try a little bit of highlighting to bring out the depth of the model, like on the cloak and the fur...try drybrushing the fur with a lighter brown! retlaw83
I've been thinking of hitting the tips of the fur with a little vermin brown. The cloak is already highlighted, done in a base of shadow grey with ice blue highlights, although the pictures makes it a little hard to discern. Thanks for the compliment on the face! I think I fussed over her face more than I have any other, maybe aside from my warboss. retlaw83
Would flesh wash with a teeny bit of black do the trick? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89444-inquisitor-kay-verlane/#findComment-1029253 Share on other sites
DanielTheGreat
To me the model just seems too busy... I find that I like models that have a limited palatte easier on the eyes. I am counting 8 eye-catching colors: White Brown Red Brown Silver Gold Purple Dark Blue I would say try to limit yourself to a few less in order to make it look a little less overdone. But hey, your doing better than I have ever done  so keep up the work.
