Vindicator out of a Leman Russ?

Recommended Posts

Well, I've been thinking that since there is no current Vindicator model other than from Forgeworld available, I've been considering converting a Leman Russ Demolisher into a Vindicator...

I'd attach supporting struts to the cannon and additional plating around to the turret so that it's obvious it's fixed in place... I'd not worry with side sponsons and mount a storm bolter into the front hull gun mounting...

What I'm curious about is whether anyone would have a problem with me doing this abd fielding it as a Vindicator?

My other thought was to find some WWII German Tank Hunter, particulary a Jagd Tiger, and shorten down the barrel into something a little more inline with a Demolisher cannon...

No not at all, as long as it resembles a Vindicator and you make sure your opponent knows when you game you will be fine.

With the WWII tank idea again not a problem however you won't be able to use in in GT's as all models must be base on and be I tinnk over 50% GW models. OK for the Russ idea but not the german tank kit.

I didn't give you permission to steal my idea, you rogue psyker! :)

I'd have no issues with fielding a Vindicator based on teh Leman Russ chassis - it could be an alternate STC. Just make it suitably "Marine-like" - add technology bits such as targeters and auspex which you won't find on a Guard tank - probably purchase the marine accessories sprue. And evidently, adding a nice hefty recoil mechanism to fix the turret in place, otherwise make the cannon a "centre-line" cannon a-la JagdPanther

1/35 scale German WWII Sturmtiger is essentially what the vindicator is based off of...use that.

Here's something if you're still looking for options...

I'd actually considered this also, but wasn't sure how well the old metals would go with the new plastic Rhinos... Also didn't wanna spend $120 (AU$), or something like that, on the two models to stuff it up and have to spend another $60 to get another Rhino...

I had also considered using the Leman Russ as a base as I've always had a soft spot for the model and have been looking for a way to include one in my army... Even considered using VDR's but it turned out WAY too costly in points to replicate one... :P

But thanks, I'll have to save the instructions and decide what I go for when I get around to doing my Vindicator... Gonna leave the vehicles to last... A Vindicator and 2 Whirlwinds...

Looking over the destructions for the conversion, I'm really liking this... The only thing I'd be changing is the hydraulics on top of the Demolisher cannon, the old model has them, but he's not inlcuded them in the new conversion... Looks like they should fit too which is a little odd, and I personally don't think the cannon looks right without them...

I'm thinking I might do both options, this and the Leman Russ idea as I had even considered fielding 2 Vindicators depending on the circumstances...

I faced a Salamander army with 3 Vindicators a while ago with me playing my podding wolves. It hurt alot. I lost my wolfguard and a hunters pack by the end of 2nd turn. Ever sice then i've been planning on adding one but it has always been put off like the Exterminator.

I know thier stuff can be kind of exspensive, but forgeworld has two imperial guard tanks built of the russ frame that look like vindicator style tanks.

The Destroyer tank and the Thunderer Siege tank could both make excellent vindicators.forgeworld link

If you make the vindicator from the russ, one thing I wanted to suggest you look into is swapping the side pieces so the treads mounts are reversed. This way, the treads would slope to the rear in front like a Marine tank rather than sloping forwards like IG tanks.
Alright, I just went to work building it lik a normal demolisher..and then it hit me how to do it..so its all built I just have to clean up the green stuff work and ill post a picture of it tomorrow. The onlyproblem is for the life of me I cant figure out where to put the storm bolter.
