nightrider
I am trying to set up my own DIY chapter and am looking for a home. In my travels around the web I remember seeing a very good description of the various sectors, where they were and what was there. Can anyone help me with this? A URL would be really good. Thanks. Commissar Molotov
This is the galaxy map. The Imperium has divided the galaxy into five segmentae. The Segmentum Solar is the central segmentum, and includes Earth, Mars and other important worlds. The Segmentum Obscurus is the northern segmentum; most people know it as the segmentum that is home to the Eye of Terror. The Ultima Segmentum, the eastern segmentum is the largest segmentum and in the very eastern fringes of the galaxy is where you'll find the Tau and the bulk of the encroaching Tyranid hive-fleets. The Segmentum Tempestus is the southern segmentum and was described in certain Battlefleet Gothic books as being home to Eldar and Ork pirates, and was attacked by Hive Fleet Leviathan. The Segmentum Pacificus is the western segmentum and is home to the halo zone. Much of the segmentum bears witness to Macharius' crusade to expand the Imperium's borders. The western fringe is a dark, suspicious place where the light of the astronomican is dim. In truth, though, most races can be found in most areas. Obvious exceptions are races like the Tau, who are confined to one fairly small area (at least until they develop a fully-functioning warp drive). Pick the segmentum you like the best, and you can fluff out pretty much whatever you want. The Count
Is the Maelstorm on the map, I can't find it, I know its quite eastern but i cannot see it there, and im sure it wasnt in any other sector Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89720-sectors-of-the-imperium/#findComment-1032256 Share on other sites
Hrvat
There are thousands of sectors in the Imperium just mkae one your self. Imerium is 75 000 ly across and 2 000 ly thick while an average sector is 200x200x200 ly. So if my math is still right there should be 1 104 466 sectors and intersectors (sectors within "imperial held" space where Imperium has no presence - other name for those are wilderness zones) within Imperial proclaimed space. Rogue Trader
The Maelstom's east of Earth, in the west of Ultima Segmentum, next to the (now defunct) Squat Homeworlds. [edit]Hrvat - what do you base the 'average sector' size on? Hrvat
An old article from WD 100 something here is a quote. THE SEGMENTAE MAJORISThe Imperium is divided into five fleet zones known as the Segmentae Majoris. Although intended for purposes of fleet administration and shipping controls, the Segmentae have evolved into administrative divisions of the Adeptus Terra. All shipping is supervised within the jurisdiction of one of the five Segmentae. Each Segmentum has an orbital headquarters called a Segmentum Fortress which forms the base of fleet operations within the Segmentum. The Segmentum Fortress is controlled directly by a high-ranking official of the Administratum known as the Master of the Segmentum. Zone Segmentum Fortress Central Segmentum Solar Mars North Segmentum Obscurus Cypra Mundi South Segmentum Tempestus Bakka East Ultima Segmentum Kar Duniash West Segmentum Pacificus Hydraphur Sectors Each Segmentum is divided into sectors. The size of a Sector varies according to local demands and stellar density. A typical sector might encompass 7 million cubic light years, equivalent to a cube with sides almost 200 light years long. Sub-Sectors Sectors are divided into sub-sectors, usually comprising between 2 and 8 star systems within a 10 light year radius (some may encompass more systems - others only 1). This size is governed by the practical patrol ranges of spaceships. Because sub-sectors are divisions of worlds (rather than volumes of space) there are vast numbers of star systems within each sector which do not fall with in a sub-sector. These are referred to as inter sectors - and are commonly known as wilderness zones, forbidden zones, empty space and frontier space. Inter-sectors may contain gas or dust nebulae, inaccessible areas, alien systems, unexplored systems, uninhabited systems and uninhabitable worlds. Also from another article. The Space Commander has direct command of a portion of the Segmentum's warfleet. A typical command comprises about 50 interstellar ships, although the number would obviously vary depending upon the needs of the sector. Fifty ships is very few when you consider that a typical sector has between 30 and 40 thousand stars forming a cube with sides approximately 200 light years long! These warships are divided up into patrol vessels, ships on permanent station in one star system and the reserve fleet. The reserve fleet is usually stationed at the Sector Fortress.
