DIY - Draco Chapter(Orange/Black)

My first thought, given your paint scheme, was Magma Drakes. Fire/Fiery Drakes brings to mind a more reddish paint scheme, though I like the flow of Cinder Drakes/Cinder Serpents. Cinder Serpents may have a few to many sss sounds, but it could work. However, Cinders, despite sounding cool (which counts for a lot, I admit), are not generally very dangerous. Perhaps I'm taking things too literally though. Other possible adjectives that would work very well (using "Drakes" to give a feel for how it would work, and bcs I like the term):

Blazing Drakes

Ember Drakes

Inferno Drakes

Searing Drakes

Hellfire Drakes

At this point it's mainly choosing an Adjective and a Noun you like and that sound well together. There have been a couple other chapters similar to this (thinks Chaos' The Pyre paintscheme-wise at least), but not enough to discourage from doing this. And yes, of course you can claim they were trained by the Salamanders. Don't see a reason why not.

Hope that helps.

Xikan,I suggest Vultures...

Don't know why ,but when i think orange and black ,thats the image comes to mind... B)

Ahhhhh, don't mention it to Kurgan though :tu:

I like Fire Serpents as a second choice..

Drakes bring Sallies to mind for me.

Just my two cents

When I started my first DIY a long time ago, believe it or not, my idea was pretty much the same idea as yours. I wanted a black/orange scheme, I wanted them to come from a fiery world, I wanted them to be Ultramarines geneseed originally but switched to Salamanders when I read about them, and also many of my test names were similar to yours (Magma Drakes, for example).

One name I came up with that I liked, but never used, was "Magmarines". I chose it to be similar to the way Ultramarines blends two words into one. I eventually scrapped the name and the color scheme (I went Scab Red and Fiery Orange) and picked up the name "Ash Bringers" instead.

I can't offer anything better as far as names go, but if any of that sparks something for you, I'll have done my job. :tu:

Kurgan? *Hides in ignorance*

Yea, Cinder Serpents does have too many 's' sounds. I like magma drakes too.

I was thinking about the name Shadow Drakes. The reason being is on their planet the closest star is very bright, so bright in fact that if you look up with out protection you could easily damage your eyesight. Because of this, the shadows cast by the monstrous drakes on the ground are one's first warnings of the impending danger lurking. Perhaps, it could be that these marines are tasked with protecting the local trading port from these creatures, which over time they have come to fear and respect.

(I know very little of 40k fluff, be nice to the noob! Do marines even guard trading ports? lol.)

Thanks for the responses,

Xikan

Xikan.my bad I suppose.

Yes its an inside joke...Kurgan is the owner of these illustrious forums and has a DIY chapter called the Vultures and yes they are orange and black...

Anyway,on a more serious note,I really like Shadow Drakes for a name.

As for being a fluff noobie ,not to worry.

There are tons of fluff guys here to help you work something out trust me.

In the end however, always remember, its only a game ,and its your army.

If you want their main task to be the protection of the planets trading ports,so be it.

Good luck with your chapter bud.

Wow, that Chaplin is awesome! It's scary how similar his color scheme is to the one I envisioned. Mine will probably have more white in it overall and I have no doubt mine will be painted much worse! Does any know how to achieve that shade of blue?
