Guest Green Lantern
Hail fellow marines! Is there anywhere small transparent plastic rods are available? I want to make some conversions to my bolters, making it look like glowing power cells in them. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I thank you in advance. Brother Caliban
Hail brother, I don't know any off hand but search hobby stores online. What about the Necron ones? I am sure you could mail order a sprue. How about trying to order some fancy cocktail mixers which come in all sorts of neon colours and cutting the 'rod' section, just a suggestion. I want to make some conversions to my bolters, making it look like glowing power cells in them. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I thank you in advance. my best GUESS would be a hobby store ... the kind of hobby store that hold things that children use ... like daycare and kindergarden ... like pearls and stuff for necklaces and such. I can guess they could have plastic rods or similar items that could be used ... (or maybe glass rods) an idea is mixing color with a transparent type of glue and see if you can MAKE rods ... or look for straws ... you know, the ones used in sodas ... should be different sizes, colors and such of them in most stores that sell partystuff or regular food ... may I ask in what way you will use them? =) How about trying to order some fancy cocktail mixers which come in all sorts of neon colours and cutting the 'rod' section, just a suggestion. so simple but yet so good idea =) it totaly sliped my mind ... just showes I not been to any bar for to long time =) I know that our school had glass rods in chemistry class as well ... these were rather thin, but glass 'color' (transparent/transluded or whatever) ... maybe that is an option, don Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89831-transparent-rods-for-bolter-conversions/#findComment-1033473 Share on other sites
Guest Green Lantern
Brother Caliban Posted Today, 07:27 AM Hail brother, I don't know any off hand but search hobby stores online. What about the Necron ones? I am sure you could mail order a sprue. I was also considering blue-translucent or plain clear, in addition to green-translucent. How about trying to order some fancy cocktail mixers which come in all sorts of neon colours and cutting the 'rod' section, just a suggestion. I will definitely check this out! Thanks! aretziel Posted Today, 07:35 AM my best GUESS would be a hobby store ... the kind of hobby store that hold things that children use ... like daycare and kindergarden ... like pearls and stuff for necklaces and such. I am not near a regular model hobby store, but there is a craft store around I could check out. an idea is mixing color with a transparent type of glue and see if you can MAKE rods ... may I ask in what way you will use them? =) The glue idea sounds like it could be easier for what I am planning. I want to drill out the barrell section, straight into the bolter. Then, cut a hole into the sides of the bolter. Insert rod into bolter and it would look like it has an energy cell inside, rather than bolter shells. More of a pulse-energy-bolter. -Q-
Plastruct will sell direct from their website. They don't have the easiest site to use but I've never had any problems ordering from them. Better selection than any hobby shop because you can get anything they make  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89831-transparent-rods-for-bolter-conversions/#findComment-1033495 Share on other sites
aznsk8s87
Anybody consider the flying bases? for landspeeders and stuff? I'm sure you could do a pretty good chop job on those! The Dean
What about... LEGO ? The new StarWars Range has some fanzy Lightsabres made from clear plastic Rods witch might have the right Size too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89831-transparent-rods-for-bolter-conversions/#findComment-1033499 Share on other sites

I think I may nick this idea for a plasma and see if I can replace it with a colored rod as a plasma core ... we will see ... you could always make new ammo clips with rods in them ... makes the bullets look special =) if you don Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89831-transparent-rods-for-bolter-conversions/#findComment-1033501 Share on other sites
Dawn of the Dogs
the best thing to do, would be to use the green necron rods, then use a clear acrylic paint to get the colour you want. example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/ddog2/RIMG0559.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89831-transparent-rods-for-bolter-conversions/#findComment-1033507 Share on other sites

Graywolf
I think Plastruct is going to be your best bet for what you want to do. The Necron rods would be way too large in diameter. Plastruct has a bunch of different colors and rod diameters and they're not that expensive. I've bought rods and plasticard from them and haven't experienced any problems getting stuff... schoon
Buying LEGO bits is actually quite easy: Try Brick Link. You can get almost any lego part you can dream of...
