Painting Purple

zbo

Recommended Posts

Well I'm reading Soul Drinkers, and it's about time for me to start a new army. So I've put 1 and 1 together and decided to do a Soul Drinkers army.

However I've never painted purple and stumped on how to. Does any one know if thiers a good how to articel?

Also I'm planning to use 13th company rules to reperesnt them, without using bikers or wolves. That way all the marines are rock hard, and the squad leaders are as hard as they are in the book. I mean how wouldn't want a pack leader with up to 8 power weapon/fist attacks when he gets charged!. I mean someone's gunna die in the cities of death..... *insert evil laugh* Would this be a good idea?

Cheers to all

Previous SD Thread

You should get alot out of that thread (and the paint scheme is very impressive).

As for the use of the 13th Co rules, Im iffy on that one. I can understand that the SD are tough, but im not sure if the 13th Co rules would be applicable for them, especially in a balanced way. After all, they are still descendents from Rogal Dorn and the IF, so i cant imagine they would go from explicit codex followers to extremely divergent.

Several options...

Dark Flesh Undercoat

Liche Purple Base coat

Foundry paints Royal Purple Dark Edge highlighting, blended into basecoat

Takes ages, but looks loverly...

OR a quicker rank and file option

Grey Undercoat

Liche Purple Base coat

75:25 Purple ink/Blue ink heavy wash/glaze in future floor wax suspension

No highlight necessary (if done right ;) )

Look at the pad on the base...

@LupoLoopy

What colour would you use for the upper highlight if it had to be from GW? No worries about taking ages, I'm spending about 5 hours of GS time a model anyway. :o well they gotta look pretty. :)

Liche Purple plus bleached bone I would say, to keep the result quite warm.

Off topic: LupoLoopy, how'd you do the metallics on the dred's legs?

1) Boltgun metal basecoat.

2 )Drybrush Chainmail

3) Drybrush Silver

4) 15:15:70 Black ink:Brown ink:Matt Medium glazed all over, thinned with water to act as flow aid. Repeat as desired.

5) 15:15:70 Brown ink:Chesnut ink:Matt Medium glazed all over, thinned with water to act as flow aid. Repeat as desired.

OFF TOPIC - Why have my images been designated IPB?

Bandwidth exceeded or server problems perhaps?

Edit: well, here is the pic I promised:

  • Liche Purple basecoat
  • first highlight: add Fortress Grey to the Liche Purple
  • add more Fortress Grey to the highlight mix, repeat until you're satisfied
  • I added some Skull White in there for extreme highlights
  • apply a glaze of VERY thinned down Liche Purple.
