New Chapter Idea

Hey Guy's,

Wanting to do another DIY chapter and while helping a friend who works with stencils I came across a really nice one of a dragon and thought of the name 'Blood Dragons' at least I think it's my idea and not something that I saw and was stuck in the back of my mind

So was wondering if anyone on this forum have heard of anyone else using the blood dragons?

Blood Dragons are a Family of Vampires in the Warhammer World. GW - Reference. Basically, one of them drunk the blood of a dragon and they are now stupidly hard in combat and don't like magic.

As for 40k reference's, no, I don't think there is any official chapter called the Blood Dargons. DIY Chapters, probably a few but none which have gone down in Internet fame so your good to go.

So a black templar successor then no magic/psyker and hard in HtH.

Not at all. Just because the Fantasy Blood Dragons have a certain set of distinguishing characteristics, it doesn't mean that your chapter needs to have the same. They could be totally different.

I think you should try to avoid that many obvious links to the Fantasy Blood Dragons to stop you making them 40k Blood Dragons (anyway, 40k Blood Dragons would be Blood Angel anti-Librarian CC Fanatics). I'm not saying make them shooty, but don't use the Fantasy Blood Dragon as a base, make up your own ideas.

Oh no I'm not basing them on anything; didn't even know about the warhammer ones as I am not into that game so know nothing about it, just found a really nice symbol of a dragon and all the names I tried using the symbol Blood Dragons was the best sounding one. and as for what type of army I have been talking to a friend who has a Salamander army and was thinking of doing something along that line, flamers , meltas etc.

Now I am not really up on the rules and other fluff type stuff this has been a hobby of mine building the models but I want to do this army right and actually start playing.

Thanks for your input so far guys I appraciate it.

Quite honestly, I like the name regardless of its Warhammer Fantasy overtones. Make it your own and all is well. Ideas for the Chapter though, hmmmm,....Blood denotes a belief in purity, aristocratic maybe, possibly both. Dragon; well that is a bit more broad, anything from furious to wise. Possibly recruits from a quasi-midieval world, pre-gunpowder but not a traditional knight in shining armor kind of thing. Maybe more of a mixture,....knights with bronze and leather, armies that do not meet on the traditional flat open battlegrounds,...arrows, spears, javalins,...flanking and swift movement. Another rambleing thought,...I will write more later,...

Severus6

Yes as do I Severus6 so Blood Dragons are here to stay!! B)

Decals are made and on the way and am working on a couple of figures now for testing the color scheme.

I am going to have a big emphasis on meltas and flamers (dragons=fire :) )

No real fluff yet as I am concnetrating on the modeling and also the fact I suck at the fluff part

but do like the part of coming from a world that isnt so technically advanced.

The red/black colourscheme and the use of blood will make people draw obvious comparisons with the Blood Angels - you could reinforce this or not. Fire and Melta might make people suggest you take some influence from the Salamanders - this is also acceptable. But in the Imperial mindset, the idea of 'cleansing' the Imperium with flame features prominently - hence why the Sisters of Battle utilise flamers a lot - NOT because they're 'pyromaniacs'. If your chapter is especially religious or zealous, they could also utilise flamers, which might influence your background a bit.
