Havock
I am planning to repaint my black dragons (most of them are crappily painted when I was still new), and rather than GW's slighly-shiny black, I though it would be cool if it was a real flat/matte black, or would that screw too much with the figures considering the scale and all? I know Tamiya has some really flat blacks. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89983-looking-for-a-really-matte-black/ Share on other sites
Freakiq
A layer of GW brush on matt varnish will probably give good results. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89983-looking-for-a-really-matte-black/#findComment-1034985 Share on other sites
-Q-
Testor's Dull Cote when you're finished painting the model. Makes anything perfectly flat even if you'd inked it up a lot. Black Daemon Templar
I've had the same problem for a long time, and thus far I have not been able to find a solution. Let me know if you find one. Though you could try Tamiya. I think I forgot to try the Tamiya matte paint I bought. And I'm not going to paint anything matte black in a while. Good luck. EDIT: One thing though. From my experience dullcoats and/or Matte mediums will NOT work! They can't reproduce the nice looking colour of the oil paints (only without the shine). Deacoknight
Vallejo Model Color makes a very good flat black. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/89983-looking-for-a-really-matte-black/#findComment-1035029 Share on other sites
Black Daemon Templar
Wasn't matte enough for my tastes though. EDIT: Granted, it's reasonably matte. But it doesn't have that military matte look to it. schoon
I'll add my voice to the above posts concerning Tersors Model Master Flat "DullCoat". You can paint everything in gloss, but put that on top of it, and it becomes flat. This post is a bit confusing. To which post above were you refering?
