Dark_Vengeant
I am entering in a painting contest for a Cities of Death themed squad. I intend on doing a 10 man Dark Angel Assault squad - now its likely safe to assume that judges are going to be looking for cities of death "additions" to the squad. Now if this was guard it would be no problem - there are a million things you can do to make a guard squad look like city-fighters. However with space marines there is not as much you can do. Are there any thoughts out there as to what I might do as a Dark Angel player to make my entry more convincing. I intend to fully base them with a display tray that is done in an urban way however the judges are not judging on bases, that is merely for aesthetics. Please help me out here. In all honestly I can't see space marines changing their appearance in an urban setting. I'm having a serious mental block. Mors Mortis Pedes
the bases are the most important things (imho) to get the cities of death look i would go for rubble and maybe the marines attached to heres a link to show what i mean http://bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?s...assault+marines i think it will just tie the squad into the whole cities of death thing. Ohh and i suggest adding battle damage and dirty armour. just my ideas Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90295-need-cities-of-death-convpainting-ideas/#findComment-1038774 Share on other sites
flyinghippo
You could use poses to distinguish them... Like have one with his back to a wall, reloading. maybe glancing over the edge at the same time. Another one crouching firing over some ruins. If you put them on a display base it would definately cement the idea. Beornling 3.1415
Grenades, lots of frag grenades (there's lots of cover give your troops those little toys, include bits of scenery in the bases, using GS to give a trooper a temporarily "Stowed" weapon (it's still there for purposes of WYSIWYG.) Also for modeling a CCW string a bit of that "Razor Wire" between the hands of one model (garrots?) Obliterator
You can model small pieces of wall on the bases, to indicate your models are shooting around cover. Or models some specialised equipment on them, like wire cutters to work their way through barbed wire, or mine detectors to scan for booby traps. Stuff like that. You can model them on a display base, effectively making a mini-diorama out of it. Dark_Vengeant
I like the firing over cover idea alot. I modeled one marine reloading last night. I'm leaving the arms off for the sake of painting though. major_panic
Or models some specialised equipment on them, like wire cutters to work their way through barbed wire, or mine detectors to scan for booby traps. Stuff like that. Space Marines need not wire-cutters, for they are wire-cutters incarnate! Ahem. Perhaps model them using cover, or, as I've once seen, model a Space Marine charging THROUGH a wall? Improvised CCW such as beams or rocks are good too... Or you could give them all scopes and modify their weapons to look more carbine-like (no idea how though) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90295-need-cities-of-death-convpainting-ideas/#findComment-1039465 Share on other sites

Brother Nihm
The bases are the most important imho. Check this out. The judges wont be deciding upon the bases so maybe model them with gear that are useful for urban warfare? Grenade bandoliers, scanners, binoculars (huge cities eh?), enhanced comms, camoflage? Dark_Vengeant
Great advice ! I really like the idea of bandoliers i think I will have to incorporate that.
