I've been doing a lot of thinking lately and this is the result, it will probably look very differently in a few weeks. As for the name I'm not sure if I should stick with it. Other names I've been thinking about is Punishing Fists and Decamarines. The color scheme is far from complete. Comments/criticism will be appreciated, both on the chapter and on the grammar :P .

Arod Carver, captain of the 3rd company of the Novamarines, was given the honorary assignment to lead the training of an entirely new chapter in 138, M39. The stable geneseed was that of several Guilliman chapters and they were to be deployed in the segmentum pacificus. The ranks grew at an impressive rate and chaplain Colm, also a veteran of the Novamarines, declared that their founding must have been blessed by the emperor himself. It didn

I read through this a couple of times until I think I got the actual feel. Hopefully I did,...you seem to have a young Marines Malevolent (contempt towards Imperial subjects) with a smattering of Ultras (building up backward planets) as Macragge is the best Empire within an Empire,...though I am sure that could be debated.

Little things here and there to remember,...52 years for the growth of a Chapter from one geneseed. You never speculated on how much you recieved, you could model the pace and growth time based on that. A bit of an issue with equipment,...you could lay your hands on a battle barge and other ships but couldnt get heavy armor? Thats a bit of a stretch,...why not say that the fleet as well as the Chapter grew over time and based on training and personal preference the Chapter utilizes "X" amount and type of equipment and not the other.

Not sure how I feel about the whole Inquisition issue,...it has unfortunately become very cliche, and ranks right down there with "lost in the warp". That and it seems to create a problem with feel and function of your background. Your boys dislike Imperial subjects, so what do they care if the Inquisition torches a few planets,...the answer, they dont. What you might try instead is that the Marines viewed the Inquisitions method as a cop-out. Instead of doing the hard thing and rooting out the chaos vermin, they simply burnt the whole house down, denying that sector valuable resources. In laymens terms, Inquisitorial laziness. I think what you are looking for is contempt not strained relations. Just a thought, hope it helps.

I never thought much about the growth rate, except it was relatively quick. The idea was that they were able to operate efficiently, though few in number, building up their numbers as they went.

Concerning the equipment, that was actually me taking the easy way out, it seemed easier (and more powerful) to attribute their tactics to a lack of resources. Also I figured a space borne chapter had to have at least a battle barge as their hq, but I suppose maybe a strike cruiser would do fine, at least initially.

About the inquisition, that's actually very close to my original intentions, except my thoughts were they thought the inquisitors handled the overall strategy poorly. I envisioned the inquisitors commanding the war effort, perhaps that's not really their true function?

What you said about the inquisition destroying resources is interesting, I guess it would fit well in with their empire building streak.

Please, dont misunderstand me, I am not saying that you cant have a Battle Barge or tons of Strike Cruisers all I am saying is that maybe you should consider what came first. Granted, this is a small point of contention but it is important to the growth and "feel" of your Chapter. Every commander, regardless of who he/she (SoB) is, will train with the resources he has available. If he/she has lots of tanks and APC's then he/she will train in a fashion that utilizes that strength. It would be the same if he/she didnt have them, he/she trains without them and maybe takes it one step further by training how to avoid or destroy them. This becomes the Chapters comfort zone,ie; the DA have lots of plasma weaponry thus they feel comfortable using and repairing them. The WS practice a mobile land based warfare while the IW excel in sieges and siegecraft. Every one of those Chapters became that way for a reason, their Primarchs led them in that direction. The basis of this is that later foundings did not have the same azimuth to follow and so training regimens came about based upon available resources, current circumstances, and the individuals chosen to lead that Chapter. Excuse my ramblings,...probably far too long an answer.

Heh, Gordo Freeman?

I think Severus' points are valid. The way that a chapter is shaped in the initial stages has a great impct upon their character and their doctrines. It's more on the 'nurture' side of the traditional nature/nurture debate, but it's true enough, I think.

No hard feelings at all good sir, I just want to see you come up with something that you are happy with and that falls within the background of excepted and current (these are not always the same) GW storyline. I think you have a good start and you can take this anywhere. I look forward to seeing its completion.
