Brother 'Ussell
Here's the Marshal for my crusade I've been working on for a couple of months now. He's pretty much done, unless I find little bits that need fixing here and there. I had planned to try to do the edges in NMM gold but I really wasn't happy with how it was turning out for me....baby steps I guess. Thanks to Master Chaplain Astador for sharing his technique with me and giving me some pointers, I hope to make him proud yet :P http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/Brother_Ussell/MarshalCorgin2.jpg Also here is the link to the WIP thread for him... death given form
looks really good, though the metals on the sword look a little thick. Is the black flat color (No highlights?) I really oke the stubble effects on him. Good job! :P DGF
Brother 'Ussell
There is highlights on the black, I just wasn't able to capture it in the photo. Also looking at the blade now it does seem a bit chunky....thanks.
death given form
Sigh... I know what you mean about the highlights... why do our cameras hate us so? :P I do really have to complement you on the face, they eye looks particularly well done. millest
thats pretty nice. is the flamer bolter a conversion? looks like it. i really like the stubble look on the model, however the models mouth looks a bit off, almost as if hes been given a thick lip, i dont know whether this is the painting or the model but its ok from a dstance i guess. have you done anything to the back of the model? any thing on the cape very nice work there cheers millest
Brother 'Ussell
Yes the bolter flamer is converted, I took the muzzle off a old flame pistol I had and cut away the bolter enough to attach it, then I removed the tank from the pistol and glued it to the side. Looking at the face close up now, I see what you meen, I think when I applied the dullcote it smeared the paint a bit in that area. I'm not sure what it is but I've had that happen a few times to me using it, even when I let things dry fully. The cape is a off white color at the moment, with the dark red underneath, I have an Idea for a border along the bottom of it, just havn't gotten brave enough to try it yet. Low on Ammo
Ooh that looks nice, I just need to know how to get that stuble look.
Brother 'Ussell
Ooh that looks nice, I just need to know how to get that stuble look. I just use codex grey thinned down with water, keep it really thin so that it takes a couple of coats to get the effect, then you can highlight with fortress grey if you like. Rymeer
Just a quick question. The left knee pad... is that green stuff, or some bit I don't know about? Rymeer
AlteriusMotive
dude i liked the first design, this one doesnt really strike me as a hardern warrior its just the chest armour looks scrouny were the first one was huge and bulky. It would have been awsome with a sculpted tabbard like the vets hav. But an okay conversion, not to sure about the sun face on his knee.
Brother 'Ussell
Just a quick question. The left knee pad... is that green stuff, or some bit I don't know about? Rymeer It's sculpted, I got my inspiration from the horus heresy artbooks and the story of how some chapters have even some very old idividual pieces of armor that will be given to veterans as rewards of service, also considering I was going for a "artificer armor" type representation I figured it would be at home. dude i liked the first design, this one doesnt really strike me as a hardern warrior its just the chest armour looks scrouny were the first one was huge and bulky. It would have been awsome with a sculpted tabbard like the vets hav. But an okay conversion, not to sure about the sun face on his knee. I liked that one better too, but it didn't work well with the pose, I wanted him looking down upon his enemies in a kinda "there they are....attaaaaack!" sort of way, but the front neck guard on the chestplate prevents him from looking down that way... Brother 'Ussell
Just a quick update of a couple of things I've done. I fixed up the paint on the sword and also added a simple border to the bottom of the cape, I was thinking of something a bit more elaborate but I also subscribe to the belief that sometimes simpler is better too  http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g295/Brother_Ussell/MarshalCorgin3.jpg
deathletterslovethreats
Sigh... I know what you mean about the highlights... why do our cameras hate us so? I've found from personal experience that, highlight-wise, to get them to show up in photos, you need to actually keep them quite sharp and extreme. Which often doesn't look as good when you're actually looking at the mini directly.
Raziellycas
It's a good model and the face on the knee is very well done and also the pose too...there are things that don't work so well for me, the silver and the gold especially on the sword and the cape that is too clean for me but is just for my dirty taste ^___^ Anyway good work! Brother 'Ussell
I've been playing around with my lighting setup a bit over the past couple days, I've moved one of my main lights directly above and to the front of the model slightly in this last picture, as you can see by the hand holding the sword the highlights are starting to show themselves a bit. I did adjust the brightness and contrast very slightly too.

Anyway, that's one nice model Brother 'Ussell. Love the pose and your little conversion bits. Well done. I agree, the cape could use some highlights, other than that, fantastic job.
