Scar Weaver
Any of you guys use this?? Been reading about it and it sounds cool. Just didn't want to go buy it without knowing how well it works. Also, if you do use it, what's the best way to employ it? Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90835-paint-extender/ Share on other sites
Moribund the Burgermeister
A paint medium that extends the driyng time? Sure, I've used it! It's really great when you're blending, and it doesn't thin the paint as much as water (if you don't want it thin, that is! ;) )! Buy it! Cheers; Moribund! Scar Weaver
Thanks for the reply Moribund. Do I add it to the paint or mix it in a surface? Is it something you mix up a pot of? Aanyone else out there use the stuff? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/90835-paint-extender/#findComment-1045529 Share on other sites
CRasterImage
You use it instead/in addition to water, when it comes to thinning your paints. Warning: Most brands often make the paint dry glossy. The Gunslinger
Hi scar weaver, Ive used the Vmc drying retarder on a few occasions, Its a thick semi gel like stuff that takes a little time to work into your chosen colour but is remarkably good at - well, extending paint  So far the best way iv'e found of using it is to stick a blob on your pallette and thin it about 50/50 with water, then add as much to your paint as needed. Be warned though it can take a Looong time to dry.Naturally. Hope this helps. mario
You should mix it with the paint on your palette. Most are made for non-miniaure painting and are a bit thicker. So they are not a thinning medium and tend to mak the paint glossy. You should forst find out how long a specific ratio stays wet. If you use too much drying retarder then your paints could stay wet for hours. And then you could justsue oil paints instead. The best use for that stuff is in my opinion to add just a little bit when painting little details where you use a small brush. The small size of the brush doesn't carry that much paint so it can dry faster on the brush and leave you with nothing to paint when you have moved the brushover to the miniature.
