WIP Mk1 Landraider

Recommended Posts

I've always missed not having my RT landraider in my current Chapter so I've started to build one using an Old catalogue photo as a guide.

so far it's 100% plasticard but I'm going to mail order the guns and tank accessory sprue to finish it off.

And with it shown next to the crusader for size comparisson

Very nice work mate. I like it, it has the size and bulk it should. I am wondering what you used as inspiration for the model? I have been looking for something to help me get the proportions right on my own Mk 1.

RoV

I used the original rogue trader era land raider for inspiration. (the original plastic version.)

The old 1990 catalogue had 70% images of the sprues which I re-sized to the current land raiders footprint.

Most excellent! I have both versions LR in my collection (stored away for now though) and what strikes me is that your version does look somewhat bigger than the original (which might be a good thing, as the new Rhino looks to be about as big (not taking the tracks in account ;) )).

Can't wait to see it finished!

I've added the rivets now, and i'm mail ordering the guns and tank accessories tonight.

The Mk1 is a little larger than the original as i scaled it up to match the same footprint as the Mk2.

Once I've seen how this ends up, I may try a Mk 1 crusader as I still have the templates i used to map out the cutting of the tracks and body.

The only thing i've really changed so far is the addition of a hatch to the front.

I remember the two in a box LR too.

unfortunately, the LR's, Rhinos and original plastic marines had a disagreement with a very large metal tool box.

(my dad dropped it down the stairs, and my poor unfortunate army was in a nice thin cardboard box at the bottom waiting to be taken upstairs.)

Very nice mate. I like how you have adapted the lascannon mountings. The whole vehicle is really looking the part.

The toolbox story reminds me of the time when I was about 10 a visiting child decided to climb my desk and see if my model planes would fly...

first off, i removed the pipes from the guns.

I've used the current Lascannon mount but then turned the barrel ends. I then used a slottabase as the mounting area. so it looks like the gun has a piston / hydraulics to move the guns.

I left the gun shields off though as the MK1 didn't have them

@Blessed Knight - When you say you resized the foot print of the mk1 to the current LR, do you mean that when you look down from the top they are both the same lenght and width?

yep. i think its something like 100 x 170mm.

I drew a box to show the length and height of the current mk2.

I then scaled the mk1 catalogue image down so that it was the same length.

by working out required thicknesses of the tracks and body i was then able to produce spacers to give me the desired width.
