Index Astartes - Emperor's Light

This is still heavly WIP. I have many sections still to do so without futher a due here is the Origins section.

Origins

The Emperor's Light chapter were founded in the 12th founding. They were founded to attack the Chaos planets in the Sirab System.

The Emperor's Light has one confession to make with the Emperor. The first Chapter Master was unable to resist the same lure to damnation that had claimed 9 Primarchs. When he fell he took 1st, 5th and 7th Company with him. After this heresy had taken place the chapter called in more Chaplains to guide with space marines religiously. The chapter have now regained full strength under Chapter Master Ferdinand.

Alright, there's some interesting ideas here.

Consider how there's one thousand chapters of marines. Creating a chapter to defend a single system seems like an incredible waste. Marines are small in number, and incredibly fragile in the wrong situation - they're typically best used on the assault. Why are they defending a single system? Perhaps you could give them a more general mission, and have Revean as their homeworld? They'd still be defending it, but it wouldn't be the only thing they're doing.

The other issue I have with what you've written is how you describe the loss of a third of your chapter as 'small'. It's not small, it's not insignificant. The most important man in your chapter betrayed his oaths to the emperor, taking with him the entire veteran cadre of the chapter. That's huge. Any chapter would be outraged, ashamed, and swear to hunt them down. But you mention it as though it's incidental, something that they just didn't care about. Is that the case? Perhaps you could work on how the betrayal has affected the chapter's character.

Here's a few guidelines for you to consider when expanding the background of your chapter:

- What geneseed are they?

- What founding were they?

- What is their chapter symbol/colour scheme?

- What is their Homeworld like, and what is the culture of the homeworld? (ie is it a Hive World, a Feral World, a Death World etc)

- Where in the Imperium are they based? (It may help define the kind of enemies they face most often.)

- What is their Combat Doctrine like? (do they prefer Close Combat or ranged fighting?)

- What is their Organisation like (do they follow the Codex or are they a bit different?)

- What is their Belief System?

If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask - we're only too glad to try to help people improve their fluff.

I am going to jump all over that band wagon,...that probably could very well be the most signifigant moment in your Chapters history short of their founding and the completion of the inception. This is one of those moments that is the end all be all in a Chapters history. Granted its very DA but you could take it down several roads; an open schism where those still loyal appealed for Inquisitorial help. Or those still loyal waged a very brutal quiet war away from prying eyes. You could go anywhere with this and if you utilize it in the Chapters history or their theme it will give them a very distinct feel, and I think that is the goal of every DIY Chapter.

I would have to agree with both Molotov and Severus, losing a third of your chapter is not something you just go "Oh Well" about. I would suggset avoiding a Dark Angel rip-off and try and go a different way, maybe they are really open about the traitors and ask for help to hunt them down?

Exactly,...put it out in the open. Nothing to hide here, just a little housecleaning. Call other Chapters, request help from the Inquisition, possibly even the SoB. Granted you take a risk by doing this but on the other hand you could totally erase any doubt as to your loyalties.

The Emperor's Light chapter were founded in the 12th founding. They were founded to attack the Chaos planets in the Sirab System.
Bit of a short mission really. Depending on whether you want your Chapter to be defensive or offensive, you could go for the following reaons.

Defensive: Defend agaisnt recurring invasions of Chaos into/from the Sirab System

Offensive: Using the Sirab System as a base the crusaded against the Chaos forces in the...

How did they react to the treachery? Did they fight a secret war and forgot about it? Did they ask for help and continue to risk their lives to prove their loyality?

The Emperors Light are a non-codex chapter. The companies are arranged into sub-divisions called cohorts. Each cohort contains 3 Tactical Squads, 1 Assault Squad, and 1 Devastator Squad and up to 4 transports. The cohorts are led by a Captain and eatch company is lead by a master. The chapter is lead by a Chapter Master.

So half Companies? Very similiar to the idea I used for the Imperial Castellans. I'll just look for my run down of the Organisation...
