refuse
Finally got all the magnets in all my termies! Now I can start painting. Got to figure out shoulderpads and helmets too. http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net/images/c/cc/Magnotermies.jpg http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net/images/5/5a/Magnotermies2.jpg Each termie has a magnet in each arm, both arm sockets, base of the waist, top of the legs, and both feet! They can (some) walk on walls! Article here: http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net...delling:Magnets yeah Magnets! (Yeah, I have to drill out a bunch of the weapons) Now off to order some alternate arms for them! T14
Looking pretty spiffy Ref. ^_^ what are you planning in the way of helmets? will they be magnetized too (more difficult, no doubt) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91265-magnotermies-part-2/#findComment-1049346 Share on other sites
ursidae
Excellent work. How long did the magnetization process take you? What other options are you considering adding to the legs? great work again, keep us posted. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91265-magnotermies-part-2/#findComment-1049525 Share on other sites
refuse
Looking pretty spiffy Ref. :P what are you planning in the way of helmets? will they be magnetized too (more difficult, no doubt) Not sure with the helmets. The armies is meant to be a post heresy army with strong ties to a legion. So perhaps alot of Black Templar/Grey Knight style helmets. I will try to magnatize them too. So I can switch (incase the =][= comes along) between helmets. Excellent work. How long did the magnetization process take you? What other options are you considering adding to the legs? great work again, keep us posted. :) About 20 minutes a terminator. I did find tha the stronger the magnet, the harder it was to get 3 magnets into the same body. The fields in the bodies were causing magnetst to flip as they were being glued. New glue (mine was taking 1 minute to bind) or using greenstuff would have made it easier. Big things to remember. Make all the magnets for a single spot go the same way. I only have one arm socket that is backwards, but I had a sword that was backwards so it works out that Terminator is the SGT! :tu: The magnetized feet means I need to put magnets or metal on the bases. Putting stronger Rare Earth Magnets under the bases (I have one just under the bases in the pictures) holds the termies on fine. I have a Lysander model I am doing the same to, and he is to heavy to stand alone, but on a piece of metal he is fine. He too will be magnatized. So all in all, with a dremel, about 20 minutes a Terminator. Drill out both arms Drill out both sides of the Terminator Drill out the bottom of the Torso Drill out the top of the legs Drill out the feet Then line up the magnets (I used a test model to hold the magnets in the right direction) and start applying them. I did the same piece of each terminator assembly line style. The Dremel made this all worth doing. Though a small drill could work. But the dremel has 2 really good bits that help. It is a grinding bit, and some sort of metal sanding bit that are the same size as the magnets. http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net/images/f/f6/Dremel.jpg edit It is flat tipped so it doesn't leave a dip at the bottom for the magnet to roll around in, and you can kind of control how deep you go. One issue is the plastic will super heat, and melt the plastic around it, so you either drill slow to control the size of the hole (long) or drill fast, and do small amounts of pressure (only taking a small amount of plastic away each time). Also when doing metal, the metal gets "HOT". I found keeping a bowl of water near by, dipping the part in, and continuing to file worked fine. Lysander was a pain! end of edit Another cool things is slight variations on drilling position/magnet position lead to interesting poses. http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net/images/3/3a/Mistakes.jpg So if you drill a bit to far forward or back, the torso/leg combonation may make the terminator leaning, or stretching. And you can switch/swap /do different things. http://lordcommanders.emperorschildren.net/images/6/68/Metalandplastic.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91265-magnotermies-part-2/#findComment-1049577 Share on other sites

The Angelus Sanctus
Nice work on the MagnoTermies :D Just a lil 'nit pick' on one of the pictures, namely the middle picture of the termie in your most recent post (the one leaning forward). I would remove the cabling section at the top of the 'head' section as i think thats mainly for the Cyclone component and it looks a lil weird having a 'normal' terminator with random wires just sticking out :P. That aside, looking forward to seeing you paint these babies up.
