Recommended Posts

As you all can see, we made some structural changes to our beloved PC&A. We felt that a more structured approach was needed, so here we are, with 4 brand new forums to browse:

Works in Progress

This is where you post everything that is WIP. This means army creation threads, minis as a green, minis partly painted, the usual stuff.

Tutorials

This is where ages of arcane knowledge are collected. You can find everything from painting a specific color to biggerising marines in here.

Hall of Honor

This forum is meant to showcase finished minis. Finished meaning a three color minimum, and finished base.

Scuzzy and me are also happy to introduce some new mods here in the PC&A: Joker transfered from the Ultramarines forum, while Q and The Angelus Sanctus got promoted.

Congrats with the promotions, and welcome on board, guys!

Just a note: we're still busy moving everything around, so if you should notice threads moving from the PC&A main forum or Liber Faber to the subforums, don't panic ^_^ .

So.. uh.. What is the main PC&A for now? or will it be removed when sorting/moving is complete?

-Legacy40k

The main PC&A will be used for general discussions, anything that doesn't fit in the new structure, like discussions what pre-heresy armour looks like, stuff like that.

while a good idea... i cant help but feel that it sort of complicates things... will we get warnings if we post a wip model in the main PCA forum for example? :) or will there be a sort of *getting used to it time* where this will be overlooked unless done repeatedly by the same person?

oh and congrats to the new mods :)

If it makes you feel any better, its a big change for us as it is for everyone else.

We do expect y'all try to do your best when it comes to posting in the correct section, although i will imagine there will be some 'breathing space' as everyone adjusts to the changes. And it isnt a major hassle to move the thread. So on that note, if you do by chance post a WIP thread in the main PC&A section, please dont re-create the a new thread in the right section, just PM one of the PC&A Mods (Myself, Q, Joker, 'Scuz or Oblit) and we will move it for you. :)

However, should it happen repeatedly, we may have a very quick word with you, as we'd prefer not to consistantly move threads.

So that being said, do your best to adjust, as i said if you make a mistake let us know, as it isnt a major drama and hopefully we can all adjust to the new sections easily and smoothly.

 Wow you just had to go and change something so simple as the PC&A!!! What the hell for? Now we get to click multiple forums to see the same stuff we saw on one forum before. What genius thought this one up? The old addage fits perfectly here " If it aint broke don't fix it"!!! There was nothing wrong before unless you count the topics that really didn't have pca stuff and then got moved anyways. I have been on this forum damn near since conception and this is retarded. You could have just made a mini forum and if no mini pic in the thread delete it. Sounds like a better deal than making 2 new ones.

In the immortal words of Butthead:

"Thettle down, Beavith!"

Don't dismiss the idea just yet, give it a chance.

The idea IIRC, was suggested by some of the mods... So

I think the idea is a good one, despite some of the initial work and changes. It does allow for more ordered structure for the PC&A and in time everyone will probably feel that it was always like that.

As Des said, dont dismiss the idea so quickly and see how it works out. I for one am really looking forward to the changes (once everything has settled down).

As a lowly Frater, I like the idea of PC&A having subforms, makes finding a recent WIP easier to find now. Also helps to better see some one's progress on a project and then to see the final results, without having to search through a few pages of threads, then a few pages of a single thread.

D'ough, forgot to add in, congrates to The Angelus Sanctus and Joker. I for one, welcome our new painting overlords.

I 'll throw my 2 cents in.

In the interest of convenience, I can see why some of the Frater are upset. Now, to see what they saw before, they have to click three new sections.

However, I fully support these new changes to the PC&A board. The first gripe I had when I came here was, I wanted to look at painted models. It's anybody's guess what was a thread containing a finished work unless it was in a sticky or it said "Finally finished!" Almost everything I clicked was discussion or an unpainted work in progress. Now, you know what you're about to get before you click it. Sure, I actually click the discussions now since I might have something to add, as before when I did not. But I like to know what the thread is before I open it. Sometimes you're in the mood to talk, others you just want to bask in the pretty that is a finished work. :D

The "mark all posts" as read bug is a little wonky though. When I first heard about the changes, I thought that PC&A would become like the "+FRATER DOMUS+" section, on the main page. Like this...

Painting and Converting Discussion

It's basically the same thing as it is now, except that "mark all posts as read" bug won't come into play.

Anyway, either way I like the changes. Keep up the good work.

;) Wow you just had to go and change something so simple as the PC&A!!! Get this man a decaf!! :P

Actually -- you guys, the Frater -- are what prompted us to change the PCA's lay out. For example, Veht saying they were having a hard time discerning what was in a thread. Other gripes about the old PCA were the difficulty in finding things with Searchy and the annoying amount of "Show Your" threads popping up.

The general clutter of PCA was starting to become an issue overall (57 pages and counting).

So clearly the board members felt something was broken.

Now we had 4 ideas come up in regards to that:

1. Leave it as it is and people can just deal with it.

2. Go to a TAGS system. Unfortunately tagging tends to only work if a forum is just starting out, which PCA isn't.

3. Make PCA a Category (like Vive Imperium and the like) with Forums for WIP, Tutorials, Showcase. That lead to a concern over further cluttering the front page. Double edge sword really.

4. Go the way we went with subforums.

Choice 4 won out as being the most reasonable to us.

I like the new format! Especially having one of the forums dedicated to tutorials... it will be a lot easier to find helpful advice in a hurry. I think splitting WIP versus finished products is also a good idea. Maybe it will take the frater awhile to catch on but I thinking this will work. ;)

Yeah im a bit confused at the moment myself but im going to let it settle down for a bit. Im sure it will be a good change. If people are still having problems in a few weeks you can make a suggestion in the suggestion box and see if we can change things for the better ;)
Personally, I think in the long run it will simplify things. Now if I want to find a WIP I know exactly where to go, or if I'm looking for that finished mini by the artist (yes!, artist) whose name I can't remember now I only have to go through a few pages rather than going through 40+ pages. Just give it time, I think it will be great for everyone in the end.

wow! i go to sleep for 14 hrs after working for 10hrs and looks what pops up!

i for one, like the changes. At first i was all like...

 :o

but now i'm like...

well done to both -Q- and TAS for their emergence into modult-hood. good to see another aussie mod patrolling the boards

=insert well know australian chant here= ;)

DM :)

=insert well know australian chant here= ;)

DM :P

For some reason im thinking yellow submarine, but that cant be right :P. I also dont think its the chant for the Fremantle Dockers either....

Heh, the Aussie mods are slowly, but surely gaining a foothold in the B&C :)

I think the changes make a lot of sense. Posts where disapearing from the first page rapidly and I feel that meant some people where not getting the full benefit of the forum (as many members do not go past the 1st page). There were also too many stickied threads (well for me anyway)

Congrats to all those who have stepped up (well done Q and Angelus, well earned) and those who have stepped over (well earned Joker)

I agree marcus. The speed of the previous version was unacceptable. Especially for some of us who are not quite that good with our modelling skills who may need help. It seems a lot of the attention goes to the modellers who are very good or have very interesting models v/s us lowly noob types just scratching around for even a good, even if very critical, critique. At one point I was going to suggest having a veteran forum and a noob sub-section.

Like with all change it is something you just need to get used to. And I'm sure it will get tweaked as we move forward.

so the main thread is for people to chit chat and dilly dally about what? i think it's broken into to many forms (much like the rest of the site) taking hlf the repeated banter off and spliting to chat here, work here makes sence, but then it's to 3 sites to figure out what i want to look at... and yes, i'm that damn lazy... oh well, sure it'll work fine, just seams overdone

You basically chat in the forum you are debating your post in:

  • Works in Progress: this is a subforum dedicated to discussions about WIP's (duh...), so basically you shouldn't be encountering too many WIPs in the main forum any more. If you're into converting, and you like to see a lot of greens or conversions that haven't been blurred by actually applying paint ( B) ), this is the place for you.
  • Tutorials: this is where all tutorials go. This means they're getting out of the main forum, but can still be actively updated (as opposed to the archives we had to store tutorials). Basically what we're after is that all stuff regarding one subject (painting yellow, truescale marines, ...) is all listed in one thread, and that thread is then updated if new techniqus are found. This means that all tutorials for a specific subject can be found in one thread, so basically there's no need to use Searchy any more, which must be a plus for those lazy chaps ;) .
  • Hall of Honor: this subforum is created to showcase one's powerarmoured might. So if you're in need of inspiration, this is the place to browse. This basically collects all of the 'post your...' threads for your viewing pleasure.
  • Main forum: here you discuss anything that doesn't go in the other forums. Stripping miniatures, researching a model, looking for bitz references, basically the old PC&A stuff without the former three categories.

I am sure that in the start, everything is still overwhelming. Heck, it is even for us, but once everybody knows their way around the block, it will be so much easier to find everything, especially as it won't be pushed from page 1 so fast.

so the main thread is for people to chit chat and dilly dally about what? i think it's broken into to many forms (much like the rest of the site) taking hlf the repeated banter off and spliting to chat here, work here makes sence, but then it's to 3 sites to figure out what i want to look at... and yes, i'm that damn lazy... oh well, sure it'll work fine, just seams overdone

You can start a thread about other PC&A stuff other than:

WIP

Finished models

Tutorials

If the thread you start does not deal with the ones above then you should post in the non-stickied section.

"Should I use this glue or that glue? "Which sprure should I use for this?", "What is the humidity thresh hold for priming?" "Hey! Look at these new non-GW drop pods", Is this version of color for this chapter marines too bright or to dark?", "Any body using model XXX of this new camera line? It is finicky with my macro adjustments. What's your solution?", "I need to rub off this fuzzy primer off my mini, can I use my mum's toe nail file?"....err you get the idea. I don't think the sections above are exhaustive. WIP may need some additional guidelines, but I can deal with that. Much better than having the threads moving like denizens of a trailer home with an F5 tornado approaching.

*Post created during Oblits post, so may be redundant*

The last two posts from Oblit and Lord R pretty much overview the purpose of each forum.

So if it ISNT a WIP/Tutorial/Finished Product stick it in the mainline PC&A :D

And i find it comforting know that all the 'Post/Show Your ......' threads are all in one spot now ;)
