Spleenex
As the title says, I'm thinking about this as my DIY chapter's color scheme. My chapter is based (loosely) on elements of Chinese history and culture. I know that the quintessential Chinese color combo is yellow/gold on red, and I have preserved this on the pauldrons and other areas. I decided to make the armor blue, however, as, quite frankly, I'm bored of red marines! The pauldron trim and aquila will be silver for basic troops, and gold on vets/officers. The base armor color will probably be regal blue over a midnight blue base with an ultra/regal blue mix for highlights (or possibly just pure ultra). The red areas will be blood red over a scab red base. So what do you think? Too Ultra-Smurfy? Too crimson-Fisty? Does it clash? C&C welcome & encouraged. BTW, the chapter badge is a writhing long (chinese dragon). I haven't gotten around to doing a final drawing of the chapter badge yet, but when I do I'll post it. NemFX
The knee pad looks so close to a D'ni number.. Was that intentional? :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91630-my-diy-scheme/#findComment-1052836 Share on other sites
Commander Sha'son
Looks almost identical to my color scheme. Which in that case, it is a good one. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91630-my-diy-scheme/#findComment-1052851 Share on other sites
Spleenex
Thanks for responding, guys. The knee pad looks so close to a D'ni number.. Was that intentional?Like from Myst?? No, I was going for a quick 'n dirty roman numeral '2' Looks almost identical to my color scheme. Which in that case, it is a good one. Checked out your stuff, Commander. Very nice. I hadn't seen your work before. Great minds and all that I guess, eh? Someone else I showed the scheme to (not on B&C) said that they felt there should be more red, given the army's theme. Thoughts on this? Any constructive criticism I recieve would be greatly appreciated. I really HATE stripping models. Brother Chaplain Ginn
I Dig but have you thought about a Salamander-esque green for instead of blue. Both will be striking but the Green will be less common. I realize its your personal preference, of course, and I dont know the majority of gamers in your area colors. These just remain very UMish. rat of vengence
I don't know how much hard work you want to do, but what about a quartered blue and red scheme? It would look good, but be a bugger to do an army of them. I wouldn't reccommend green and red, people will ask whether they have a sleigh as a fast attack choice... :P RoV Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91630-my-diy-scheme/#findComment-1053238 Share on other sites
magnum_opera
Personally, I would say stick with the yellow/red/gold. It's a striking scheme, you know. ;) However, if you don't want to stick with that, consider a jade scheme, perhaps? This guy has a pretty cool jade technique. http://gamesday.us.games-workshop.com/Game...s/cat2_page.htm Seriously though, I say the red and gold. It appeals too much to my background for me to say no. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91630-my-diy-scheme/#findComment-1053904 Share on other sites
Spleenex
Thanks for the input, guys. So the concensus seems to be more red (or at least less blue) = good. I whipped this up to make the yellow/gold/red theme dominant: http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k221/spleenex/celestialdragons2.jpg Problem is, it looks very BA-ish now. Any thoughts on how to differentiate it from the vamps? I'm definately NOT interested in a BA successor, so I'd like to somehow make the distinction clear. As for the jade or other shade of green, I agree it's more original, but I just think that the contrast would be a bit much. Thanks again for the replies.
