LupoLoopy
Frater, I'm in the process of making some Space Hulk/Gothic Tech bases for my terminators, and I'm now trying to source some interesting technical bits for the single texture bases. My bases are basically a rip off of Joker's (linky), but with slightly different textures & colours. I've got two bases I want to put techno-gubbins on, but I don't have any old Star Wars kits to dismantle. Any ideas? Cheers. edit - adding picture http://www.tvxc.org/minis/hulk_bases.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91665-trying-to-source-technical-bits/ Share on other sites
aretziel
if you got some old techno things you could always make a green stuff cast of them so you got more then one and make some as you please ... hmm, beside that, what to be able to use ... I am not so into toys anymore =/ maybe parts from old computercards could be usefull? naa, my head is empty atm :P sorry Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91665-trying-to-source-technical-bits/#findComment-1053206 Share on other sites
Jokersminis
Old VCRs or radios have lots of cool little Gubbinz, plus Ork kits are a great repository of techo-stuff. :P And I'm Flattered. mortiferum
Perhaps you could try an old radio (Joker beat me too it) or an old computer motherboard etc. Should be plenty of resistors, processing chips etc. Perfect for techno gubbins! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91665-trying-to-source-technical-bits/#findComment-1053247 Share on other sites
-Q-
Just about anything from a Marine or Guard kit would work. I've used the HK Missile body as a conduit connector with plastic rod coming out like a pipe, backpack from the new Guardsmen set under like it's an access panel or control system, IG Heavy Weapon barrels as pipes and vents, Sentinel or Guardsmen Flamer fuel containers, access hatches from tanks of course, the wirey bits from that tank torso where the Marine is just sticking his head out, and parchments and purity seals to Bless them in the name of the Emperor! Lord Humongous
I work as a bike mechanic, and did my urban bases with a lot of bits I just picked up off the floor when sweeping up - tiny bits of cable, little screws, ball bearings, assorted small plastic stops and pads, etc. Not many folks have that luxery, but maybe other places of employment have similarly useful "dust bunnies". Doctor Thunder
Epicast Makes some really nice resin 40K bases that are made to look like the deck plating inside a starship, as well as some bases made to look like industrial decking. I've bought both and were very pleased with them. Don't they have things like that? You may also want to check your local craft stores - I know our AC Moore has a ton of little robot kits in the kids section that has little cogs of all sizes. Look for independantly run computer stores, they'll often have 'junk tables' of either REALLY old or broken stuff for 1-5bucks. Cords, hard drives, etc. You could get some neat parts for cheap. asmodai650
Cheap mechanical watches are also good source, like alarm clocks. Model trains might be another option. Old video game controllers, cell phones, anything somelse would call junk basically.
