Deathwatch dreadnought

Some of you may remember this guy: ;)

After many revisions  (stick on, hack off, stick on, hack off...) he's ended up like this:

He counts as a Grey Knight dreadnought with twin heavy bolters and an incinerator (and the wrecker strategem) and he's from the Death Knights Chapter.

The heavy bolters are meant to match the Land Raider Prometheus (that's my next Deathwatch project!):

My attempt at a dreadnought Deathwatch pad! I also added the extra incinerator canister:

Just to make sure there's no doubt about his attitude to aliens! ;)

IIRC line of sight traces to the body of the model and the BBB mentions something about not penalising extra big banners! (like the new BT one from Forgeworld) ;)

The grinders are open because the nozzle of the heavy flamer (now incinerator) is in the middle of the fist.

Yes, I know I seem to be the only one around here who reckons Deathwatch could have a dreadnought! (I still don't see why not... it's a very high honour to be selected you know... a dread could be one of the best at fighting a certain alien menace and be recalled to Deathwatch to train the others... I think it looks cool... *mutter grumble*)

Um, lego??

PS. I've just realised that the oblique angle of the pic makes him look a bit stumpy - he's actually a normal sized dread!

Okay, here is a better view:

I'm using the Grey Knight dreadnought rules in the DH list - I need to take a "Grey Knight Hero" to be able to field the dread, so I need to convert a "Deathwatch Grand Master"! :D

But this dread is fully rules legal - the HBs and incinerator are both listed options.

Looks funky. I think it would look better with a closed drill claws. I do think the banners on the back are a tad too busy. Thats just a personal thing but I would remove the trophies as they look more akin to Chaos and Ork trophies than marines :P

So when we going to see it painted? ;)

Point taken about the drill claws looking better closed - in retrospect they would probably look better not quite so open (although I'm not a big fan of them fully closed, cos then you can't see the flamer). Unfortunately trying to change them now would be a nightmare! Oh well, I like it! (I'm picturing the holy promethium blasting out of it, which adds a little something!). :)

The banner and trophy poles are quite busy, I admit. It was originally just going to be the trophy poles, but I decided to add the banner to match the rest of my Deathwatch (the Captain and Lib have a back banner with the same Artemis icon on top and brass etch =][=) - hopefully it won't look too busy in the end, because the body and the banner will both be black (which will hopefully complement the banner poles either side). I'm planning to use the standard from the command squad sprue on my BT dread (I don't see him as particularly subtle!) and the size of these trophies and banner is meant to be roughly equivalent.

As far as the trophies being chaos-like, I know what you mean, but it matches a theme in my Kill-Team that veterans have trophies on their backpacks. I have tried to have a trophy for each of the main alien races on my veterans (eg: Scythe of the Emperor with a nid) and I figured the dread would have to have more to emphasise his status as an ancient warrior who has carved his way through countless enemies.

Ah painting... that unholy terror! Erm, seeing as I haven't painted anything in years, it might be a little while. (yes, I intend to hide on the WIP board for ages!).
