Dunedon
Hi folks ... I'm considering a colour scheme similar to the one I did in Paint Shop. It would be painted with a black basecoat, purple drybrushing on the main armour with dark angels green shoulder pads. The chapter is going to be a dark angels successor chapter (hence the DA Green) ... what I'm wondering is ... 1) Do you think these colours go well together? 2) What shades of purple and green would you use for the drybrushing (I'm really very new to painting at all so don't have a real good idea of what mixtures, or even base GW colours to use to get a good effect)? 3) Another other colours, or sections of armour to be coloured suggestions? ixupi
Joker colors. Anyways, joking aside...can't say I like the color scheme at all, but it's all personal preference, right? Depending on how deep you want the purple, you might even want to go black and highlight with purple to give it that REALLY deep tone. As far as other sections to paint? Perhaps one of the knee pads would add in a nice splash of color. Dunedon
Hmmm ... that is quite a bit more "purple" than I really wanted ... I was hoping to drybrush mixes and shades of purple to highlight the mini with a "bit" of purple colouring. You're right though ... I'm not sure I care for "joker" colours either now that you reminded me of it ... sigh, now to find another colour that will go with the Dark Angels Green ... maybe I'll go with a metalic (tin bitz or chainmaille). - Dunedon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1053974 Share on other sites
==Me==
A much darker purple or dark blue would look nice. Think Crimson fists with green shoulder and knee pads. If you're trying to stick to a darker color because of the whole dark angels thing...then i'd suggest maybe a blue. Brown even? Dark colors sorta limit us in this case...black, blue, brown. Red gives the wrong vibes i'd imagine...though you could do it REALLY deep. That might look cool. Aarhus
If they're DA Successors, why not Bone instead of green? Bone's a good colour for DA's and their successors! Bleach Bone (worked up from Vermin-Graveyard-Khaki-Bone) with purple is a very nice combination. I should know, since those are the secondary and tertiary colours for my marines! Cheers, Lawrence. -Q-
Mmm, best idea yet. I'm with drop the green and go Bone and Purple! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1053998 Share on other sites

Could be mistaken...but I believe he wanted the DA green because of the DA part? I was going to mention bone...but I figured it'd be too....deathwingish Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1054006 Share on other sites

Thanks for the suggestions so far folks ... hopefully I'll be able to do some "painting" this weekend, then I'll have real mini's for y'all to critique :D ... Dunedon
Here are a couple of potential schemes based on what you guys suggested ... comments are appreciated, and as usual I've got a couple more questions. B) How do I get the Edge highlights (like the Crimson Fists in the Space Marine Codex) ,is that done with drybrushing or another technique? Also, would I use an ink wash over black to get the blue "tinge" to the mini that I'm trying to represent, or is there another better method of accomplishing this? Thanks in advance - Dunedon (PS: I'm thinking of using both colour schemes, one for the Terminators and the other for the power armoured troops ... any thoughts on which one should go where?) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/dunedon/40K/TerminatorBlue-Bone-Green.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1054327 Share on other sites
Jokersminis
While I like the blue/bone/green combo, I would like to let it be known right now that there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Joker colors!! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1054365 Share on other sites
st.germaine
I like the one with bone pads more but not lots more. I wouldn't go with one scheme for the PA and the other for the termies but, if that's your intent, as this is a DA successor, the logical choice would be to use the green pads for the PA and the bone pads for the termies/veterans. BTW you might want to consider the the original scheme with a white helmet instead of blue. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1054418 Share on other sites
Artimis Vergadin
This is gonna be purple blue? Really dark right? I'd say go with the bone pads, they create a really nice contrast. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91715-potential-colour-scheme/#findComment-1054498 Share on other sites
