mortiferum
So...I'm looking to convert my own Choas Spawn for my "Chosen Aspiring Champions of Tzeentch". I want the Spawn to look very different from the current model - for me I want Tzeentch Spawn to look a little more mystical / magical / re appear and disappering in and out of the warp etc... I'm looking to recreate an effect I've seen a few times in the past on various models....namely on marines armed with missile launchers and whirlwinds and servo skulls 'zipping' around. In all of this conversions the 'rockets' are in 'mid launch' having just been 'shot' and the missile is just exiting the barrel of the launcher. Trailing behind the missile / servo skull etc. is a 'jet stream of smoke'.....how do I create this look? The only idea I have is to use 'cotton wool' but I think it will be too dense and not give the effect I'm after. I've tried looking for examples, links but have been unable to find any in order to demonstrate the effect I'm after - though hopefully I've given a 'good enough' description of the effect I'm after, if anyone has ideas on how to do this, or have done this succesfully or have a link or photo of the effect I'm after I would be greatful if you could share it with me. Many thanks Morty Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91728-modelling-smoke-jet-stream/ Share on other sites
Evilrik
Try spray painted steel wool, if you want it less dense , tease it, to thin it out. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91728-modelling-smoke-jet-stream/#findComment-1054165 Share on other sites
mortiferum
Try spray painted steel wool, if you want it less dense , tease it, to thin it out. :D hey, thanks for the reply...never thought to use this before, I have a few questions? I assume I can pick up steel wool from any hardware store? Also, would I wrap it around a paperclip for sturdyness or is the steel wool sturdy enough on its own? So how do I paint it up to look like 'smoke'? Step 1. Spray Undercoat: Chaos Black Step 2. Dray brush Grey Step 3. Dry brush White? Is it as simple as that? Artimis Vergadin
Home depot is probably the best place for steal wool. Steel wool is very sturdy, works well for popped smoke etc, just glued to a piece of wood, or a nickel or something. But for what you want, I'd say wrap it around a paper clip. For painting, Just prime it black, drybrush it with a few grey tones (codex grey, then fortress grey). Add some fire colors right behind the rocket (red, yellow, orange) and you'll have a kicken smoke stream :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91728-modelling-smoke-jet-stream/#findComment-1054502 Share on other sites
fet
I once used the foam from blister packs. Simply tear it into tiny chunks, glue in place (preferably around some kind of armature), douse in superglue to make it rock solid, then paint. Easy as pi. Hope that helps, fet Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91728-modelling-smoke-jet-stream/#findComment-1054563 Share on other sites
