JuliusRedWings
I am getting ready for an upcoming tournament and am looking for tutorials, tips, information... on how to make a display board for my Imperial Fist (see power armour, on topic...barely). I found the step by step article on GW's website but I like to do alot of research before I start the cutting, painting and gluing so any information would help me alot. Brother apocalyptic
well, a big help would be to know how your army is based.. is it city fight, forest, grass, dessert, waste land, ashes or what? Brother apocalyptic
well, then a plain sand base, with some rocky pillars will do the trick? perhaps a small imperial outpost that they are guarding Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91729-display-board/#findComment-1054266 Share on other sites
Guest mentors
i think a display board should enhance an army and really make them stand out, from what your saying your gonna put yellow marines on a sand coloured base, probably not a great idea? i'd be tempted to change the bases to something a little darker. i think they would go really well on an urban base. JuliusRedWings
My actual question is more along the lines of the best way to build a display base. I do appreciate the ideas on how to base the models. Ivan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91729-display-board/#findComment-1054288 Share on other sites
Brother Chaplain Ginn
Get yourself a round drill bit for a drill press...I can remember the type. Home Depot hasm in 25mm and 40mm perfect sized for your bases. You dont need a drill press just screwem in your power drill. Id buy some foam isulation and drill into this...you could do particle board but the foam is easier. Just get some elmers glue and some sand and coat your board, but not you holes. Grab some flat spray paint from the paint department and have at it (.99 a can is good). Replace the sprays with home latex paint color matched if you want to take you time and dry brush it on lightly. Pretty much follow the Black Gobbo article on the GW home page for more tips. You can get a good display together in 1/2 a day no problems, once you have your materials together. MuteAssassin
hey Ivan, I've been doing some research on the subject and found a couple of semi-helpful links. City display board WIP/tutorial Terragenesis How to make a display board in an evening For paint I'd use latex house paint, color matched to the colors you used on your bases. Cheaper and very durable. I'd also add some vegetation to add some color outside of yellow (like sage brush, something you're probably familiar with ;) ). Also, if you are looking for a frame, you can usually find cheap ones at Goodwill or similiar and cut the MDF or foam to size. Hope that helps and good luck at the tournament (show em how we roll). MuteAssassin
My search-Fu is superior! Yeah it's surprising how hard it is to find info on display boards. There's another good tutorial that I found awhile back but I can't track it down yet. I'll post here when I do.
