Tagging system?

Recommended Posts

It might be nice to have a tagging system similar to the Army List forum. It needs to be structured, however, and this is my idea.

+++ Edit. What I mean is have the main category first which broadly seperates things into Painting, Converting, or Other.

Then the second category indicates how difficult it is, ie Tabletop or Display

The third category gives details, ie what colour you are talking about.

That's all in the title. In the Topic Description you can put more 'normal' information. ie what you'd think should be the title :D .

|--Painting

|__|--Tabletop (TT)

|__|___|-Name of colour

|__|___|-Technqiue

|__|___|-Etc.

|__|

|__|--Display

|__|___|-Name of colour etc.

|__|

|__|--Scheme

|__|___|-Name of chapter

|__|

|__|--Other

|_____|-??

|

|--Converting

|__|--Simple

|__|___|-Body

|__|___|-Weapon

|__|___|-Base

|__|___|-Decorations

|__|___|-etc.

|__|

|__|--Advanced

|__|___|-Body etc.

|__|

|__|--Greenstuff

|__|___|-Body etc.

|__|

|__|--Other

|_____|-??

|

|--Other

|__|--?

|__|___|-?

So, some examples of topic titles:

[Painting][Display][bone]

Storm Ghost Terminators

[Other][Converting][Legs]

Please help me find tutorials

[Painting][Display][shiny Green]

Powerfist details

[Other][Converting][Rocket Launchers]

Please help me find tutorials

[Other][Painting][Flesh Tearers]

Please help me find tutorials

Looks a bit confusing by how you've presented it. I'm assuming you'd want to say....if I wanted to off my Ultramarines Vet. Sgt. that was Table top quality it'd be tagged as the following:

[painting][table top][ultramarines]

Veteran Sergeant inside.

It seems like a lovely idea BUT...it'd just make for extra work on the mods part. Because you know how much people love to not follow the rules or just not read them in general.

Just my two cents there.

I'm not sure folks are going to even actually post all of their WIPs in WIP instead of here. Seems unnecessarily bulky to me.

As a poster there isn't even a little part of me that would like to memorize that syntax or look it up every time I post because I've forgotten. Even though as a general rule I am fond of post titles and descriptions that make sense. The BnC should be about having fun and sharing our personal view on the coolness of Space Marines with each other. This just seems like another barrier to participation and 'us vs them' fear of excessive Moderation. (I love that term  so silly!) Trying to work out a DOS file structure every time one posts is not fun! ;)

As a Mod... I don't want to figure that stuff out and fix it for everyone that hasn't bothered :D

No, it is a real phenomenon that many places suffer with.

I dislike the three sub-forums at the top of this page, it makes things more difficult. I used to have all of my stuff on one page, now I have to go into painting, then into WIP, then out of that and into showcase, then out of that and into the other one. Annoying.

I think some people are getting confused with the idea presented here.

What I think juckto is simply suggesting that posters take a OOP (object oriented programming) or XML approach to adding an extended title/description of new posts in PC&A.

I really don't see it as extra work for the mods, personally. Anybody who didn't follow the convention would be an immediate red-flag as to someone who didn't read the rules. If anything, it would make moderator activity a little quicker.

Why make it an official "must do or else" rule. How about a voluntary "you can do this as it helps some" kind of rule.

I'd think that if anyone who wanted to follow this convention, they should use it. It does not break any current board rules, does it?

As a former web developer and programmer, I really like the idea. It makes total sense to me.

Although a tagging system is useful, given the broad nature of the PC&A, a tagging system would become more of a hassle than an advantage. PC&A as well are all aware of covers a wide diversity of ideas and projects within the hobby. The current breakdown of the forum i feel works quite well, as it breaks down alot of the major components of the broadness that is the PC&A. Of course, we could get into finer detail, but that would only serve to confuse everyone.

Also, tagging systems are "supposedly" in use in the Ruinous Powers and Ordos Inquisition and after time, people just forget to use them completely. The current PC&A has only been around for a week, some folks have adjusted well, some are still adjusting and i find its too early to really get an accurate feel as to how well the change will work out in the long term.

Nothing stops folks from tagging their topics as they please now. :D So it already is voluntary yeah? ;)
