FuriousFerret
Can anybody tell me, or show me, if the classic Devastator legs will measure up to the current range of Marines? I can tell at a glance that the upper body is far too small, but the legs are cool and the heads might be salvagable too. But I don't want to buy them only to find that the legs are tiny. dev1 dev2 I've searched PBase and Photobucket for comparisons, but no luck. Thanks! EDIT: sorry, I think I was off in my own little world there for a moment. Let my clarify my question: if I cut off the torso from one of the classic Devastators, and replace it with a current-edition plastic torso, will the Marine I just slapped together be the same height etc. as a current-edition all-plastic Marine? In other words, are the classic legs the same size and length as the current ones, or will there be a noticable difference? (I am trying to avoid the 'Gnome Marine' syndrome you get when mixing new and old miniatures). Thanks! Rau le Creuset
I have the Longfang sergeant from the old devastors in my army and as far as I see the proportions are a little bit different but sizewise the old ones should fit well with the others. T14
The thighs are slightly weedy. But you will go a long way if you keep the plastic groin and ribbing, and attach the metal legs. http://www.pbase.com/templar14/image/25839057.jpg If you are using low-slung heavy weapons it looks OK IMHO. http://www.pbase.com/templar14/image/25839055.jpg Cheers -t14 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91916-classic-devastator-legs-and-current-range-of-marines/#findComment-1056404 Share on other sites
FuriousFerret
Thank you, Templar14! I actually found those very pictures on PBase not long ago, and they really inspired me to convert some old Devastators. I happened to know you posted here on B&C, but I didn't want to impose on you. OK, so the legs will look OK. Slightly weedy, but I could use them on heavy weapon troopers. Or maybe I could cut the legs at the knee and pin the lower legs to plastics thighs .... :D I could add those lower legs to Chaos Warrior legs! That would be AWESOME! Now I just need to buy them. As far as I can find out, they are only available on the Italian and US online stores. I e-mailed the UK online store yesterday, but they said that they wouldn't add the devastators to the Classics section, they were no longer in production, and that once the Italian and US stores ran out, they weren't coming back, ever, anywhere. No more Classic devs. So get them while you can, everybody. OK, so I'm in Denmark. I am left with the undesirable options of ordering them from the US (and getting hammered by customs), or ordering them from Italy, from a website in a language I don't understand. Wonderful. (If only I had come back to the hobby a few months earlier I could have bought them while I was in grad school in the US. Bah.) T14
Glad you like em RRC. they are good for something then :D I have about 20 classic devs already. I think your suggestion about cutting at the knee makes a lot of sense. Alternately, I am sure you could make the greave extra armour from thin plasticcard or GS. I love their helmets much better than their legs though. A gigantic helmet targetter in front of the eye instead of those weedy little clip-on things that seem so prevalent these days. Seleucus
I've done it with the Long Fang versions of the old Dev legs and they came out fine, they can be less animated, depending upon the stance, but do give a better idea of old Longfangs than using the standard tac legs.
