psychoplatypus
I've been painting for a while now, and for all of my fleshy mini's I use some combination of dark flesh, dwarf flesh and elf flesh with skul white thrown in for highlights. However, I'd like to paint the Lucius the Eternal model the way the 'eavy metal team painted it, and I'm not quite sure what they use for a basecoat. Some kind of grey? And do they give it a wash with purple ink at one point? Advice and tips on painting pale, "haven't seen the light of day because I've been pimpin' it with the daemonettes" kind of look. Thanks in advance. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/91992-pale-skin/ Share on other sites
The Angelus Sanctus
You could try and use some of the grey colors (Space Wolves Grey, Ghost grey) to give a more faint blue-pale complexion, in addition with some highlights of white to intensify the effect. See how that goes, and if you want to add a bit more tint, you could do a blue or even purple wash before you start doing the highlights (like you would a flesh wash on more 'standard' flesh tones). Brother Nihm
This one is more of a blueish grey but it might be close to what you are looking for? Recipe: black+regal blue mix, undercoat codex grey, basecoat fortress grey + codex grey mix, hightlight #1 fortress grey + blue ink, hightlight #2 fortress grey + skull white mix, hightlight #3 I believe you can adjust it to fit with lucius' colors easily. Or if you like Brother Atheos' skintones as is found here you can ask him how he did it. ;) I added his post below for reference Right.. after much frstration i have finally discovered the way to do a standard AL colour scheme... but it took too long so i've defected to the EC. Heres a WIP (or 2) or my lucius which will represent my lord... http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h80/Fezbah/LuciusWIP2.jpg A Bit fuzzy but shows the skin better than the other pic... http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h80/Fezbah/LuciusWIP1.jpg Despite the light glare this pic shows the work put in to the armour to pick out the faces, teeth and eyes on his armour, along with the gold which i need to do a couple more highlights on. c&c welcome! Brother Atheos
Beat me too it Nihm! my Lucius was painted "normally" with an Elf flesh highlight, but still looks quite pale in normal light. (come to think of it i may have done an EF+White highlight) However, when i do sickly pale flesh i start with a basecoat of tanned flesh, and add White and Space Wolves Grey to lighten it. That way you get a very pale and washed out look to the skin. The other option in just do lighter highlights than you normally do, using more and more white. Last method, if you can get hold of it, is get some of the old GW Pallid Flesh :P WHy they removed it is beyond me... they shoulda kept Bilious Green too. Anyways, hope it helps!
