My New Army

Recommended Posts

These lads are from my new marine army, intended for the SA GT this year. They were supposed to be ready for SACON, but with that being delayed, the painting bug fled and I'm only just getting back into the swing of things. Unfortunately, it's a bit cloudy today, and those damn clouds have a real knack for covering the sun just as you hit the button, so some of the pics have turned out a bit dark. The flash really washes them out, so a bit dark is better than unrecognisable white blobs :D

The chapter is tentatively named The Eternal Champions, and the use a black sword as their chapter badge. I'm giving them TIYBB, and converting everyone who has TIYBB to actually have a bolter and CCW. I'm not sure on which drawback I'll choose yet.

My obscuras pattern Dreadnought - I know many people refer to this style as a Juggernought, but I based the legs off a Shadowcat class omnimech, and to obscure is to hide or to shadow, hence obscuras pattern.

More Dreddy.

Yet more dreddy goodness.

One of Squad II's marines. These guys have TIYBB. Not sure on their drawback yet.

Squad V's sergeant. The pose didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to, but pretty close. Unfortunately, the pic's a bit dark.

Kickin' it old school with a 2nd edition land speeder. The assault cannon is held on by a rare earth magnet. I have 2 more of these waiting for paint.

Once again, just a little dark unfortunately. I rarely use chaplains, so I decided these guys get chappos uber alles.

Some of the chapter's finest. These guys function as the terminator Chaplains command squad. Mostly because I mucked up a conversion and only have 4 guys for the squad. This will be fixed later.

Thanks. This is probably the first time I can honestly say that an army turned out the way I wanted them to. The dread got the conversion because I was getting annoyed by the GW standard legs. Just how are dreadnoughts supposed to walk with legs like that? Only problem is the standard powerfist arm looks a bit silly now, and I haven't been able to convert it to my satisfaction.

love the oldskool speeder, and great bone color on the armor.

The dread looks great. how did you make the legs? I can see why the standard DCCW would look silly on it. Perhaps you should (I'm assuming it's magnetized) go with a giant chainsword for its CCW, for that extra reach?

any chance to get a breakdown on the dread? or maybe a photo from behind on it?

looks good ...

I hope my army will look as good as yours do ...

the colorscheme is colse to the one John Thompson made for the Chapter Design comp. in WD ...

and I been using that for my army and it resemble yours.

so I can only say that I think this army looks GREAT!!!

and I will probably consider my previus option of making my vehicles black and now go with 'bone' there as well ...

great looking minis =)

@Sian & aretziel - The dread's legs are made from sentinel legs and cadian lascannons. The armour plates are scratchbuilds from plasticard, and the ball joints on the ankles are sentinel ankles. Sentinel feet also went into the extended shoulders. The "hips" are more bits of sentinel legs.

The bone scheme is indeed based off a tutorial by John Thompson (and I'd forgotten his name until you mentioned it). He did one for his Stom somethings chapter way back before the great crash, and I had a test mini done up back then. I only did the rest of these guys recently. I have a predator in the works as well - with magnetised everything (dozer blade, sponsons, turret, ammo box/power cells). Just need to get my A in G and finish it.

And by the way, there's absoultely no bleached bone (or any other bone) anywhere on these miniatures :(

thanks for the breakdown and probably feel that this idea is nicked =)

about my mentioning 'bone' I meant the style ...

Thompsons scheme is made to simulate bone. at least in my opinion =)

so that was what I meant when I said 'bone' instead of typing 'John THompsons styled scheme' =)

would love to see this scheme on a vehicle with larger flat surfaces so plz post WIP and finished pics on the Predator =) want to see how it turns out ...

Wow I really like the ivory white paintjob! The whole army look nice I think that on the battletable they look compact aganist the evil enemy! true sons of the emperor! (not the slaneeshi chaos ones ;) ) The only thing I would change is the dread legs, too long for me but is just for my taste. Metals are a bit too shiny, (always for me and I'm not the god of painting so my words are just an opinion ;) ) Maybe I would add some a layer of black ink with water (or chaos black and water) to reduce the reflexed light... anyway your army look very good! thumbs up for you my brother!

@aretziel - Pics of the pred in the next 24-48 hours hopefully. Got inspired and started painting it again.

@Raziellycas - Thanks, I'm a big fan of your Clockwork Ravens work. Looking at it again, I do agree that the metal might be a little shiny. Some of that's the photography, some of it's real life. I think I'll grab some Tamiya Smoke next time I'm in town and hit it with that. Mostly, it's that fact that the dread and the speeder have much larger metal areas than the other models.

I'm also planning a few changes to the dread pattern for the next one. Armour plates over the front and top of the hips to bulk it up a bit (which can be easily retrofitted to the old one if I decide), and maybe a bit more bulk to the actual legs. Add some doodads and whatzits (technical terms there) on the sides to add some "muscle". The legs aren't actually much thinner than a standard dread, they just seem that way because of the increased length. I'm happy with the lower legs and the torso. They'll be staying as is.

For reference, the top of a standard dreads exhausts just barely reach to the base of the missile launcher arm on my obscuras pattern dread. I really have to figure out a CCW arm for them, but it's not a hug hassle since I plan on using them as anti-tank snipers rather than close combat monsters. The second dread is probably getting a twin linked autocannon, or maybe a plasma cannon.

gotta agree with grey knight on those bases, I've got slate on mine, did them before the new kits came out and was thinking of changing them for something simple and stunning like yours.

plus gotta say that your whole army is fantastic! without a doubt!

love the dread, those daddy long legs always remind me of the chaos dreads from the ols sapce crusade board game

by the way is that painting technique time consuming?
