Big Woop
I'm working on a DIY, the color scheme is complete and the background is expanding. I have many names that I like, but not really one that really suits the chapter's style and history. The chapter is supposed to have begun as a fleet based crusading chapter(ultramarine gene-seed), but I would rather not use names that includes "templars" or "crusaders". The idea is that they move through space and overwhelm the enemy with drop pod assaults. They focus on infantry, not using much heavy vehicles. One name I've thought of is: Winged Bulls, but I'm having doubts wether I should go with it (Winged: obviously symbolizing their fleet, Bulls: strength, brute force ) If someone have any suggestions it will be much appreciated. Ferrata
Winged is a good word to use for a fast attack drop pod/assault force, I use it myself. Winged Bulls will just remind everyone of Red Bull, so you might want to go for something else. If you have some kind of relic/home system/battle ship you could call them the Wings of... (I have Wings of Death so you can't use that :D ). Or if you want something different, Lightning Bulls could work, or another creature. solid snake drive
do they they relate to the Ultramairins chapter? if they do then how about " The Wings of Guilliman". Or if not the " Wings of Purgatos" or the "Wind Stalkers" or " Wings of Repent" Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/92120-emperors-shorts-naming-my-chapter/#findComment-1058733 Share on other sites

Brother Scythe
Really the chapter naming is best done by oneself but I'll throw my ideas out. Well Winged is great, however there are other creatures than Bulls, Dragons, Wyverns are good names for an areial based chapter however do not work well with Winged. As such using a thought from the other poster Gale Wyverns is for some reason a great sounding chapter to me....just a thought though feel free to use it if you wish, if you don't I might be making yet another DIY :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/92120-emperors-shorts-naming-my-chapter/#findComment-1058767 Share on other sites
Darrell
You could try something like the "Emperor's Breath". There's a verse from the Bible that I rather like; "But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked." Sounds like a drop pod army to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/92120-emperors-shorts-naming-my-chapter/#findComment-1058771 Share on other sites

Tubal
"Spears of..." or "...'s Spear(s)" sounds good for a fleet-based chapter IMO. Red Bull isn't bad though, you'd have the colour-scheme and symbol chosen in one go :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/92120-emperors-shorts-naming-my-chapter/#findComment-1058779 Share on other sites

Big Woop
Thanks for the replies everyone, this thread has offered a lot of inspiration. The color scheme is codex grey with knee pads, shoulders, gauntlets and helmet ultramarines blue, the trim is shining gold. Of course there's the option of combining "winged" with a latin word, such as Preliators (warriors), I'll have to think about that. Vashiel
Try useing more fanciful words to spruce up the name. Take the aforementioned "Blue Paladins". Paladins- great. Blue - mundane. However, what about the Azure Paladins? Sound any better? I think so. Although that's just an example. Basically, use fancy words. For colours, try using the heraldic terms rather than just "blue" or whatever. Windrider
I don't think I've ever heard of a Chapter called the "Tears of the Emperor". Somthing like Emperor = upset about traitors/xenos/bad guys in the imperium. I think that works kinda well with the Tear Drop = Drop Pods thing. Some kinda "Tears of the Emperor fall like righteous rain, drowing the evils threatening His realm". Commissar Molotov
The Emperor's Tears were also a chapter created by Eddy the Friendly Rasta, who used to post on the B+C and elsewhere. He's on a sojourn from the internet at the moment, but this was his last draft of the chapter: (Note that mistakes and fluff errors are not mine :P) Emperor's Tearshttp://img115.imageshack.us/img115/8316/etvz5.jpg Formed in the 2nd Century M41, the Emperor's Tears were formed outside of any specific founding in response to the increased threat Abaddon posed after the Gothic War, and so they've been placed right between Terra and the Eye of Terror.. The chapter represents the Immortal Emperor's mourning at the end of the Battle of Terra. It is said he shed three tears over the death of Sanguinius. One for the man, a beloved son. One for the sacrifice the Primarch made, giving his life in loyalty to the Emperor. And one for the legion he left behind, without a Primarch to lead them. The Emperor's Tears spread their actions widely over a large area of the Imperium. Despite being based in Segmentum Solar, they have fought in conflicts from the Cadian Gate to the south west of Segmentum Tempestus, and from Segmentum Pacificus to the Maelstrom. Because of the nature of their widespread campaigns, the Tears regularly co-operate with other chapters, holding particularly special relationships with the Reapers and the Iron Knights. While a youthful chapter, only being in its second generation of senior officers, the Tears have suffered an exceptionally traumatic history. An Eldar siege of their home system, and a complete structural reorganisation forced upon them during the 13th Black Crusade have made them a wary brotherhood, instinctively cautious in their doctrine and general way of life. Homeworld While their fortress monastery, simply named The Spire, stands proudly on the surface of the fourth planet in the Heres system, it would be unfair to declare that planet alone as their homeworld. The Emperor's Tears have developed a strong connection to the 6 planets in the system, with only one of them uninhabited. Heres II dedicates itself to the manufacture of day to day tools and supplies for the whole system, while the immense factory spires of Heres III churn out endless tanks and weapons for the Imperial Guard. Heres V has two whole continents dedicated to recreating battlefield conditions of countless types, and Heres VI is commonly referred to as 'Lab World' by the system natives, due to its continent-spanning research and development complexes, even extending into orbital testing. (Ref He355-694.585/2-6) Heres IV, however, remains the centre of the chapter's recruitment. The world itself is remarkably ideallic, nothing approaching the death-world status that many chapters choose to build their fortress-monasteries on. The northern hemisphere is dominated by the main continent of the planet, while a much smaller, Y-shaped continent covers the south pole. Massive coniferous forests cover the northern continent, with occasional plains, mountain ranges or inland seas. The Spire stands tall roughly on the northern tropic, just south of the foothills leading up towards the Black Mountains that rise towards the north pole. The geography gets gradually flatter towards the equatorial coastline, and as the forests gets sparser, the trees are replaced with tropical vegitation and the villages of locals are more noticable. The population is small, coming to about 2 million natives spread about the planet, mainly concentrated on the equatorial coastline of the northern continent, while Imperial stations, barracks and such comprise up to 10,000 additional personel. Although the natives have a fairly high standard of technology, they maintain a hunter lifestyle, relying on catching individual animals to provide them with a way of life. The children are taught from a very early age how to stalk and kill anything from fish to birds to the easily startled rikestags of the temperate forests. They are trained to use whatever tools are at their disposal, be it a knife, a bow and arrow, a gun, or even their bare hands. They are taught that their bodies are tools of nature, and should be used with optimum efficiency. Therefore, while the natural paradise of Heres IV may not seem like the ideal world to recruit future superhuman warriors of the Emperor, the Emperor's Tears have a pool of highly skilled trackers and hunters available to them. These taught instincts remain with them through life, and daily rites usually involve stalking the planet's many indigenous wildlife. Because of the low human population, such intensive hunting of the wildlife does little to damage the balance of nature. On the contrary, the Heres IV animal kingdom has evolved without natural predators, much to the confusion of the biologists who watch and monitor the global ecosystems. There is, however, one creature that poses a threat to the dangerless existence of animal life on the planet. The roc is a huge, eagle-like creature, the smallest of which are easily the height of a man, while the largest recorded is standing proud in the halls of the citadel having been tracked and slain by Tobian Circ, with a wingspan of almost 100 metres. It is a rite of passage for new recruits into the chapter to go out into any mountain range and hunt a single of these monsters. Doing so tests the initiate's ability to track, observe and execute environmentally aware and powerful prey. The poison in the roc's talons also acts as a final catalyst for the implanted organs to operate fully and protect the body from the normally lethal effects. The Spire is an enormous whitestone cathedral-shaped structure, with a tower rising up over a mile into the sky. Stood proudly atop the spire is a shining golden statue of Sanguinius, watching over his beloved world. In front of the Citadel itself is a square mile area protected by the enormous wall that surrounds the rest of the structure. Within this area is the graveyard of all those who died during the Battle of Heres, and here is where every Battle Brother lost to the Chapter is either buried, or remembered, graves marked by a statue of the marine. Combat Doctrine The Emperor's Tears prefer to avoid out and out pitched battles, believing them to be a clumsy and inefficient way to fight, particularly with so few soldiers at their disposal. The believe in surgical precision, attacks from the shadows, and so each Battle Brother is proficient in stealth battle tactics. Trusting in the good nature and humanity of the PDFs of rebellious worlds and the like, the chapter attempts to inflict as few casualties as possible, preferring to see the human resources turned to fight for the good of the Imperium once again. Compared to many of the other chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, the Emperor's Tears are considered 'light', a scouting force almost. For the most part, they shun the heavier ordanance used by some chapters in favour of general mobility. Naturally, Predators, Razorbacks and the like are used, although in slightly lower numbers than most Codex Astartes-abiding chapters. However, the Emperor's Tears shun Whirlwinds and Vindicators, considering them clumsy and inefficient in their way of war. They are a very thorough chapter when their attempts fail and they do have to resort to a contest of sheer warfare prowess, regularly cutting off escape and supply routes, and destroying the command structure right down to individual squad leaders when facing rebellious armies. As a chapter, they've been regularly criticised for not coming face to face with their enemy on the field of battle, some even daring to suggest that the Tears are cowardly. Indeed, much of the time, the only thing that appears commendable or heroic about their actions is their modesty in success. Marines of the Emperor's Tears are often heard to cite "there's always another battle to fight", and so don't allow themselves the glory of what other chapters consider victory. Organisation Originally, the Emperor's Tears followed the Codex Astartes to the letter, taking the sacred words of Robute as gospel. However, over time, they've found that the Codex Astartes organisation doesn't lend well to their form of warfare, and so the chapter has taken the liberty of making its own amendments to the Codex's guidelines. Due to the youth of the chapter, the 1st Company has never been particularly large, posessing only 30 suits of Tactical Dreadnaught armour and a limit of 25 Veteran Marines, known as the Anzan-Wesca Veterans. This number, and the name, are in honour of the remains of the original 1st and 2nd companies that incurred devastating casualties in conflict against a powerful Ork warlord on the planet of Wesca, and even more catastrophic events upon the planetoid Anza. However, no-one within the chapter has ever disclosed exactly what happened on Anza, and it could be that only the highest ranks actually know what occurred. The only evidence of the events on the previously forrested planetoid was destroyed by an orbital bombardment by the Tears themselves, leaving Anza as a barren rock, with a single monument to Brother Captain Macius Dinid standing on the empty surface. What is known is that all Marines, prior to being granted the status of Anzan-Wesca Veteran must complete a pilgrimage to the monument, and many visit the planet Wesca as well, although this doesn't appear to be compulsory. The 2nd Company resembles the Dark Angels' Ravenwing in purpose, being dedicated to fast attack, with almost all Battle Brothers being on bikes, in land speeders, equipped with jump packs, or, in rare cases, loaded in Rhino transport vehicles. 3rd Company contains the bulk of the chapter's heavy weaponry, with a disproportionate amount of Devastator Marines and armoured vehicles. The rest of the Chapter bears far more resemblance to the original vision laid down by the Ultramarine Primarch in his texts, with 4th and 5th Companies having a normal distribution of fast attack and heavy support, although in slightly lower amounts than most Chapters would be comfortable with. They also contain the only two Dreadnaughts the chapter posesses, the warriors incarcerated within being heros mortally wounded during the Eldar siege. 6th through 9th inclusive are the reserve Companies, although they see more action than most Chapter reserves, often being sent off to fight in a campaign without support from the main battle companies. The 10th Scout Company is, to all intents and purposes, adherent to the Codex Astartes, although there are closer to 200 Emperor's Tears Scouts, making up for the lesser numbers in 1st Company, and also being more suited to the Tears' form of warfare. The Tears take a great deal of pride in their large fleet, even appointing a Captain Of The Fleet. Five battlebarges act as flagships for the fleets of Space Marine and Heren warships, as the system dedicates itself to supporting the chapter. The ratio of Emperor's Tears ships to system-supplied ships is roughly 1:6. However, at least one of the five fleets is permenantly stationed in guard over the system, much to the chargrin of system lords requesting assistance. Beliefs The loyalty of the Emperor's Tears to the Imperium is beyond question, and they will make any sacrifice to preserve the dominance of mankind in the galaxy. However, many skeptical Inquisitors and daring scholars have pondered just who the Chapter focus their worship and attention on. They seem to idolise Sanguinius almost as much as the Holy Emperor Himself. This causes a great deal of friction between the Tears and Blood Angels successor chapters, as there doesn't appear to be any genetic link between the Tears and the winged Primarch. From the day of their entry to the hallowed halls of The Spire, initiates have obedience drilled into them. Ignorant outsiders rumour that the initiates actually chant the maxim "a good soldier obeys without question, a good officer commands without doubt" in their sleep. They believe that all Space Marines are brothers as they're all 'fathered' by the Immortal Emperor himself. This means that they freely co-operate with any and all Space Marines, and often form strong bonds with marines of other chapters. Upon full initiation into the Chapter, the recruit is given a new name, finally severing all his ties to his previous life. As one, the Emperor's Tears loathe all Eldar, regardless of craftworld. This stems from when the chapter was almost wiped out by an unprovoked Eldar attack on their homeworld. Guardsmen who've served with the Tears, or even alongside Heren regiments have been recorded to use the phrase "safe as an Eldar guarded by a Heren/Emperor's Tear" to describe a perilous state. Imperial Commanders have dismissed this as mere conjecture, and continued to allow the Emperor's Tears to fight alongside Eldar allies in major, multi-race battles. To their confusion, the Eldar are always either completely wiped out in the fighting, or suffer far higher casualty rates than predicted. In campaigns when more geurilla Tear actions are intended to aid Eldar progress, somehow the information is inaccurate, the paths aren't as safe as reported, vital weapons systems or bunkers aren't destroyed. Despite all this, most scholars put it down to coincidence and breakdown of communication. Geneseed All available information indicates that the Emperor's Tears were initially formed from miscellaneous pure genetic material, gathered by the Adeptus Mechanicus over the centuries. As the monitoring of the genetic stability of the Emperor's Tears has subsided, all reports indicate a very high level of purity, with any questionable variations usually being explained by the training new marines undertake. For the most part, the Emperor's Tears have black hair with a blue shine to it, a genetic trait inherited from the recruits' origins as a native of Heres IV. Fortunately, as the chapter's Apothecaries have only been creating marines for 600 years, very little of the knowledge has been lost regarding the implants, and the naturally clinical nature of the chapter means that no risks are taken with any stage of creation. Roughly a third of recruits reject the implants, but they are allowed to serve the chapter aboard the many battleships, serving important roles even on the bridge. Battlecry In His memory! Unfortunately I don't seem to have the images of his chapter on my computer, so I can't show you the full colour scheme. And with that, I'll end the hi-jacking. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/92120-emperors-shorts-naming-my-chapter/#findComment-1060108 Share on other sites
st.germaine
I remember a chapter named the Tears of the Emperor that was posted on the old 40k Mailing List on igcom.net. I don't recall who posted it but, it's always stuck in my mind because I liked a number of things about it other than the original idea. It was one of the lost legions (2nd if I remember correctly), had a female primarch, and went to Chaos as a Slaaneshi force. Each marine was "married" to a Daemonette so for every marine choice in the list there had to be an equal sized unit of daemonettes. He used the Ulthwé eye (Tears of Isha (?)) in green as the symbol. The basic color scheme was a deep purple with green trim. Wasn't keen on the lost legion idea but really liked the idea of a 50/50 mix of CSM/daemonettes.
