My spares are mutating...

Recommended Posts

Well, last night i was prepping parts for me to assemble and paint today, namely SM legs. I awoke this morning to see that 3/10 legs had developed what can only be described as an air blister on the knee!

It was a bit warm yesterday so maybe an air pocket just under thge surface caused it if it expanded or something?? or do the dark gods have hold over my bits?

Don't despair!

You can actually make those into really cool damage effects. If you get a modelling knife and cut the surface away from the blister, then put a small crater in the new exposed surface below the blister using your modelling knife, then paint the whole area inside the blister in metallic and the model up to the "rim" in your paint colour, it makes for quite a realistic-looking impact crater!

Unfortunately, if all of them are on the knees that might begin to look a little silly. Maybe one of your regular oponents have troops who like to try to kneecap Marines?

Are yes the wonders of the shoddy plastic which they have finally got rid of and gone back to the better quality plastics!

As said above though could be a good chance to personalise them, but added battle damage or something to add to or cover the corruption!. If they are Imperial add purity seals to stop further corruption. If they are chaos, meh it's normal after a while anyway! :)

You can actually take them back to GW and get replacements, i got a friend who reports the smallest blemish and gets replacements instantly, usually getting to keep the old ones.

unfortunately GW wont and isnt obliged to replace "prepped" parts. once removed from the sprue then its basically your problem. so it looks like the GS repair is going to be the best method for this!

cheers

Howdy all, thaks for the advice and humour.

Sorry i dont have any pics at the mo, my cameras batteries died and its too hot to go to the shop to get some more.

Basically, if you want to know how it looks...

Take a blister,

pop it,

leave it a day to harden,

cut the dead skin off with clippers.

So yeah... as for returning it to GW its about 6-8 months old, or if its some of my Staff order stuff then its more like 32 months lol!

@Gareth: I bet your friend has some really obscene nickname at his local GW... At my local GW theres a kid who ALWAYS complains about something in his mail orders. Also GW isn't obliged to refund ANYTHING unless it is faulty BEFORE any assembly. So check stuff on the sprues first i guess.
