Dark Angel Fallen Hunters

Hey guys!

To stop myself getting bored with my pre-heresy stuff I thought I'd play around with some bits to try something new using what I could find in my bits box.

Still pretty rough at the moment but I'm going to try for a much more medieval look with these guys than my World Eaters. I'm going to add some monkish robes and bits to flesh them out a bit more.

This guy is very much inspired by the Sanguinus pictures I've seen in the HH artwork books. I'm going to give a very ornate look to his armour and the plasti-card hanging down will be GSed into an animal skin draped over his deathwing robes.

I've used bits from the Bretonian range and some left over forge world bits. The double headed eagle is going to count as an auspex, he sends it off to hunt down the Fallen and spot advancing enemies.

This guy is pretty much a regular marine with a bretonian knight lid. Nice and simple but I hope to convert him into a MkIII as with all the others. Next up I'm going to clean up the lid with GS and add armour to the greaves to bulk them out to resemble MkIII armour. Maybe add some guitar strings to the sides of the helm to give him a more 40k look and then sculpt on the robes.

Battle Brother torsos

Very early shots of a couple more of the marines. The first is a bretonian knight head which will be cleaned up with GS, the second is one of the bare heads shaved and built up with GS. The third is just a regular monkish style head (squire) stuck on a plastic torso. Simple but effective none the less. ;)

Not sure if I'll ever get an army of these guys together but it's a welcome distraction from the rigors of the heresy stuff and a return to the first chapter I ever did (although our armour was black back in those days). They'd probably work well for Black Templars or even Fallen DA.

Using the Bretonian bare heads does limit them conversion-wise as they are smaller than regular marine heads but they suit my purposes for this little distraction.

Nice I like the master very original, you going to put a cape on him, the model screams I need a cape.

Agree he needs a cape, I like the pose but there is something about those Brettonian hawks I dont like, they seems to be to cartoony, a strange for a DA to have :)

Thanks guys!

Shouldn't you be painting pre-heresy World Eaters right now? ;)

CM Dante: Yeah...erm...well...see, thing is my dog ate them... :)

I'm still hard at work on them, just taking a breather to stop myself going wacko. :P

Angelos/Darth_Lunchbox: He will be getting a cloak of sorts, more a robe really though. I'm not overly keen on the eagle myself but it serves to strengthen the Imperial theme and also adds to the idea of this guy being a hunter. I'm going to try to convert the eagle a bit, maybe make him mechanical to get across a feeling of 40k technology. :)

Gyson_Vore/ZONKEY: I think both the Primarchs and the Emperor had some influence on this model to be honest. I normally just go for bog standard commanders and fancied going a little bit over the top with this guy. But yeah, he's all bits box. :)

Quick update.

Here you can see where I'm thinking of going with these guys. Rather than go with the traditional monkish robes I've adopted the look of the HH artwork of the Dark Angels. Don't get me wrong I do like the monkish robes but a cowl is more practical and means I can play around with the armour without obscuring the details. Plus it allows me to get some practice with the GS.

Jeeze Doghouse, you're always making inspiring stuff. Thanks for all the amazing work!

They're extremely successful btw, after I saw them I immediately recognized the connection to the HH art books. Any chance of some PH Dark Angels?

Cheers guys!

angel robertson:It's a plastic brettonian knights head.

Starks333: I was thinking that as well. :eek I'm tidying the heads up as I go, hopefully they'll resemble MkII/MkIII lids when finished. The plasticard is the foundation for the GS work, it gives me something to build on so that it looks like it's hanging rather than just follow the contours of the torso.

Captain Loken: Thanks mate. You've no idea how difficult it is not to start another PH army before I've even finished the first one. Hmm, maybe I could do them PH or as Fallen... :tu:

GeneralStukov: Sorry mate, all my conversions are one hundred percent Lego free. It's a minor conversion of one of the bits from the brettonian knights sprue. ;)

I've built the base layer of the robe and begun to re-shape the helmet. Did the same thing as the captain, stuck a bit of plasticard behind the model and sculpted over it. I've also started to alter the greaves so that they resemble MkIII armour.

wow. impressive.

Sorry but It screams "Emperors Children"

Add a wing on the Studded Shoulderpawd, sculpt a cloak and a tabbard and you have the perfect Saul Tarvitz :eek

where can I get this eagle?

The Knight Headed Marine is wicked too.

I'd echo the Emperor's Children sentiment...doesn't look like a Dark Angel to me. Eagle chest, eagle on the back-pack, eagle in hand...a little bit too Imperial for my tastes. Still well done though, just not quite my idea of a Dark Angels master (you paint it pre-heresy EC though, and everyone will applaud you).

Cheers guys.

Hmm, could be right about the master maybe I need to scrap the new versions and dig out the older models I started a while back.

This is only going to be a small project, at the moment I've got ten sniper scouts waiting to be constructed, five terminators, ten marines or so, a dreadnought and this monster I just started...

I've always wanted to do a mobile fortress type Landraider and the C.O.D. kits were just too tempting to pass up. :P

The idea behind this force is that these guys spend their time soley hunting the Fallen. The Tower is just a pimped up Landraider and will act as their base of operations where they get the Fallen to repent, re-supply, sleep, repair their armour, etc. Basically it's a mobile mini fortress monastry.

I'm now thinking that I should have an Interrogator Chaplain leading the force supported by five Deathwing terminators, ten marines, a dreadnought and ten scouts who are the force's eyes and ears.

So I'm thinking...

Interrogator Chaplain

Deathwing Terminators with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield

Two units of five Sniper Scouts

One ten man tactical squad with Bolters

Dreadnought

The Tower (Landraider)

Landspeeder Tornado

I think Iron Father may be right though, I may have to use these gothic guys below instead as I only need ten or so at most.

So what do you think? Carry on with these newer DA or finish these older gothic versions?

Thoughts appreciated. :(

Yes. :P

Personally, I'm digging the new marines w/ the Knight helmet. Though I'm not a fan of the Master's head or the head farthest right on the "Battle Brothers Torso" pic. They just don't feel "Space Marine" to me for some reason. Can't really comment on whether the rest are DA or not though; I just like 'em.

I think the gothic legs look pretty wild; maybe use them as an Elite unit of some type? They definitely look heavier/sturdier than normal marines.

IMHO the tower idea is neat, but it'd be nice to see more Land Raider in there. Maybe a supply train of somewhat converted Land Raiders instead of everything in one shot? Then you could model more specific stuff onto each 'Raider, like a chapel, armoury, manufactorum, etc. I guess then you couldn't take them all in a game tho'.

Just my 0.02. Seeing the faces you've painted on the gothic pattern marines, I suspect you could pretty much take any of the models you've done up so far and turn them into something amazing.

Looking forward to seeing updates.

The new ones aren't bad, but the gothic ones are beautiful and SO inspiring, plus i hate the head your master has, no offence, just personal taste, those brettonian heads look ugly IMHO. The box style helm looks REALLY nice tough, a gothic marine with that might look really nice

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated, Gothic marines it is then!

Hmm, but I could do something similar with rhinos and have the Landraider as the centerpiece.

Excellent idea, thanks Frydog.

Not sure about the colour scheme though, should I paint it in chapter colours or paint it as a building?

I was thinking with a little work these would awesome for Wordbearers and especially the Witch Hunters, stick a priest on the front balcony.
