Dark Angel Fallen Hunters

My first reaction to the sides is to leave it flat (ish) and then add those flying buttress pieces from the Basilica Administratum to the side either following the shape of the track guards (meaning that the middle buttresses would need to be shortened to keep them level at the top)

Alternatively add the flying buttress pieces directly to the side of the track units (again meaning they need to be adjusted for height), this would mean that they would hang out over the ground. Although it might seem weird it would allow for a sort of stepped look to the vehicle, and give it a grand shape to match with the LR you built, it would look sorta like this:

.......___

...__|....|__

../|..|....|..|\

.|.|_|---|_|.|

Edit: well it looked good until the formating messed up the shape  , anyway two track units either side of the main 'box' with buttresses on the sides of the track units, hopefully you see what I mean........

Cheers guys.

FireHawk: It seems we're thinking along similar lines as you can tell from the update below. It's sort of turned out as a mini-leviathan.

BrotherChaplainDarius: I re-posted a tutorial in the tutorial section I put together before the crash and I'm currently working on an updated version.

Terminatorinhell: Dark Apostle pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one. :P

Next up is an early shot of my new Master model. I originally built the legs ages ago whilst playing around with the Gothic marine idea and I'm just about to start cleaning them up with GS and then add the robes.

I'm still playing around with the background material on the army as I'm a big fan of themed armies.

The rough idea I have at the moment is that these Astartes stumbled across a group of twenty or so Fallen known as the Conclave who were planning an alliance of the Fallen back when they were Scouts some two centuries ago.

Although the Scouts were successful in disrupting the Conclave's plans they failed to capture them. Now years later the Astartes have been assigned to various companies and hold various ranks within the Chapter. Whenever one of the Conclave surfaces they are formed together as a unit known as the Order by the Inner Circle and are given the chance to redeem themselves by capturing the Fallen that escaped.

The original Scout squad's veteran sergeant has long since fallen in battle and is now entombed in a Dreadnought. Neophyte Mathius went on to eventually distinguish himself through countless acts of valour and later became the Master of the 9th company, Neophyte Conrad was to take the path of an Interrogator-Chaplain and the other seven Scouts became Sergeants or worthy veteran warriors of the Chapter. The Order is supported by squads of Scouts who aid them in their mission but have no idea that they are hunting former Dark Angels and are also supported by a squad of Deathwing Terminators.

Early WIP Master

Great work Doghouse! I like the fluff behind your idea, and the master looks every inch a Dark Angel. Reminds me of the Asmodai artwork in Codex Angels of Death. Not too sure about the assault marine torso, but that is a very minor issue, and probably just one of personal taste. I'd love to be able to do hoods like the masters on my future tactical marines, any tips?

BL

Thanks mate, Asmodai is indeed the inspiration behind the pose of the Master. As for tips on the hood, I made a sausage of GS and formed a rough triangular shape pushing the GS back over the head. Trick is to keep it thin. I'll try and explain more once I've got some other angles to show.

The assault torso will eventually become a MKV torso and I'l be GSing robes over most of the armour eventually. :)

No rush mate, rest assured, I keep checking back in on this thread regularly :) . That hood is ideal though, and to think I was trying to get some Bretonnian bowmen heads...

It is good to see a great idea being executed so well, and it is serving as wonderful inspiration for me to try and get more character into my Dark Angels. Look forward to more progress.

FireHawk: It seems we're thinking along similar lines as you can tell from the update below. It's sort of turned out as a mini-leviathan.

It looks great, those CoD panels really open up a load of conversion options- everything from gothic vehicles to space hulk wall panels. GW really hit the nail on the head with that kit.

The master is unmistakably DA, and nice sword conversion, I've had that hilt bit for ages and wondered what to do with it because it had a nice hilt, but a dodgy blade. Now I know.....

While the fortress style landraider is a really cool idea, and has some definate potential, It's just not working for you.

Perhaps somebody can post of a pic of the cathedral immolator somebody did a while back for their witch hunters army, it might provide some inspiration.

The problem is that they towers are too high for the length of the vehicle, it doesnt look gradeose, just silly.

The rhino looks better, but it is still a bit too tall, If you cut off the bottom 2 cm or so of the cityfight pieces and lowered them in more, it would likely improve the look of the vehicles greatly.

On the land raider, you could cut out the 2 side doors section, and add in some COD arched windows there which would add to the effect building it right into the vehicle instead of tacking it in top, You'd just have to find a new spot for the sponsons to go. Take a look at the custom land raider made for Marneus Calgar that was shown in White Dwarf a little while ago.

Like I said, I like the idea, but I think they need a bit of refinement to turn a great idea into a great vehicle.

-Legacy40k

I think you should continue both the new and old ones. I like the first master you posted (the one with the psyber eagle) even though my first impression was "holy crap, he looks like he's from Castlevania.."

I think I'll try my hand at this sometime.. What is green stuff actually called in stores? I can't find it anywhere by that name..

I wanna see your take on a land speeder. "Sir, we have reports of Dark Angels inbound!" "What are they sending our way?" "It appears to be a fourteenth century belltower with what appears to be a toolshed propelling it.." "No more booze for you. I don't care what Slannesh says."

Thanks guys!

FireHawk/Captain Maelstrom:It was actually an easy conversion, I just cut the hilt of the sword in the scabbard that comes with the WFB CW and added the blade from the Company Champion. Easy stuff!

Legacy40k: I can see where you're coming from, I could have probably been a lot more intricate with the Tower but I don't really want to put that much work into this army as it just something I'm putting together out of spare bits of kit to take a break from my Pre-heresy stuff.

I'm going for my own take on the universe of the forty first millenium. I was reading False Gods when Horus is shown a vision of things to come and saw how crazy the universe was in comparrison to the enlightened time of the Great Crusade and that's what sparked my imagination.

The Calgar Landraider is very nice but not really dark and twisted enough for my liking, I'm taking the GWMG (Gamesworkshop Modern Gothic) to the extreme here and I completely understand that it's not going to be to everyone's liking. :(

Realistically from a gaming point of view the vehicles are going to be a nightmare to use as they are honking great fire magnets but having said that past experience has taught me that having oversized Marines stomping across the tabletop gives me a phsycological edge as well.

NemFX: I think that I may use the original master model as a Blood Angel at some point.

Green stuff is called Kneadatite, I think, check out Heresy Miniatures' website.

Yeah I'd like to see the look on the enemy's face as well. pretty much sums it up.

I'm not sure what to do with the Landspeeder at the moment, going to have to try to get it atleast partially aero-dynamic looking I guess. I'm thinking something a little different to the current model, possibley more like the sand skiffs from Return of the Jedi.

Thanks for the complement Malleus. :D

I think that you could be right about the vehicles mate. I've still got to put together another Rhino for use as a Whirlwind, I may tone it down as you've suggested and just add little bits much like Calgar's personal Landraider that Legacy40k mentoned earlier. I can then use the Chapel style Rhino as the Interrogator-Chaplain's personal transport and give him a Command squad as I've managed to dig enough bits out of my bits box for a further ten models.

I've just started the Chaplain (but no gs on him yet) and done some work to the Master. I'll look into the pointed shoe thing though, hopefully he'll look like he's wearing a form of MkII armour when finished.

I'm a bit torn about the Landspeeder design at the moment though, was thinking mayne Heresy Era style but I'll play around with some ideas and see what works.

I'll try and post some more pictures asap.

I love the master, yet I think adding a robe will diminish his overall look, altho I never liked DA I love what you're doing here, a suggestion would be to just keep him how he looks now, Adding on robes has always been a pet peeve of mine because it covers up the fine detail of the armor even if the robe can have more detail added on...

I'd seriously rethink any thoughts of adding robes.. DA aside.. its too ugly for such a fine model..

GeneralStukov: Thanks mate. Don't worry, I'm only adding the cowl and cloak hanging down the back in tatters pre-heresy style. I want to leave as much of the armour visable as possible so that I can add little details and still see the green armour underneath.

Update time...surviving members of the Order

Master Mathius

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/Doghouse12/Picture017.jpg

Still hard at work on this one. I think it may have been easier to start this over from scratch rather than update an existing sculpt. The armour is starting to take shape and I've just begun to add the beginings of a sword to his right greave (still need to clean the greave top up though). May just have the sword motive and add some scrolls or something or just make it into a stylised chapter symbol.

Still got a lot of work to do on him yet but he should eventually look like he's wearing an older heavier armour variant than the others to bulk him up and make him seem more heroic.

Interrogator-Chaplain

This is pre-GS. I'm going to be adding the robes and greaves later. The chest piece was made from one of the groin guards from the Terminator Assault squad sprue. I'm still painting the guy on the left btw.

As you can probably tell some of these guys are salvaged from my first attempt at this project a year or so ago. The knight helm will be converted with GS to represent a MkII or MkIII helm at some point. Not all will have robes and each will eventually have different company markings. Hopefully each will look like an individual champion when finished (as marines should really) and have CM arms added when I can dig them out of the attic. I want an adhoc look to their armour so that it looks like they have different parts from ancient plate (pre-heresy term for PA) armoured suits. I still have enough parts for twenty of these guys so the Chaplain may get an honour guard.

Couple of different shots of the Master...

These pictures don't really do him any favours but I believe in posting WIPs warts and all kind of thing. The second shot demonstrates how much of the armour will be visable once I've added the robes done the back like the guy on his left. The right shoulderpad will be banded like the earlier marks of armour and I intend to add rivets, thigh pad details, etc at a later stage.
