These produce clouds of noxious gases and contagions like Nurgle's Rot as he fights in close combat. I've just added the basic shapes for now then I'll blend them in so they look as if they've burst from his skin, growing up through the skull pad like fungus...eew!

Once I've got the basic details in place I'll be going over the model and blending in the edges of the GS to match his skin.

He's quite a brute though, strength seven with the Great weapon with no armour saves and 2d6 penetration, toughness six with two plus save and the daemon speed should get him into combat quite quickly (hence the defiler legs).

Speaking of the defiler legs what I'm planning on doing is having them show flesh, muscles and bones through the holes that I've randomly bored. The legs are more like the armoured exo-skeleton of a bug rather than standard mechanical legs. His body has grown to occupy the entire internal area of the legs.

High_Marshal_Ezra: I think he probably ended up as lunch. :)

Obliterator: That's what always makes me laugh about models like this, the psycological factor plays an important part in my game plans. Players tend to fire everything they have at them and seem to forget that he has the same profile as a regular GW daemon prince model.

Brother Magnus: Projectss like this give me something to talk about in therapy... :)

poor guy.. his eye is falling out :) beautiful idea and conversion.. now all it needs is some clean-up's on the fungus-sporetower thingies and then a nice paintjob... wouldn't wanna fight that guy.. looks gross (in the good way :) )

luther..

Cheers guys! :)

Here's something else I've been playing around with, WIP proto-type Death guard for a possible squad or two.

I'm going for an old school look rather than total gross out (I'll leave that for the possessed units).

The helmet is a trimmed down brettonian lid, I'll add the little spike on the top later.

Quick update...painting.

This is the bit I've been dreading...

I've begun to basecoat the model in Graveyard Earth. The reason being that I'm going for a slightly different look for my Death Guard, getting away from the typical green colours and going for a more interesting brown palette. I'm planning on building the GE up to an off white/pus white colour for the armoured areas because of the DG original shceme being white. I know that this isn't gong to be to everyone's taste but I want to be a little different.

I'm not too sure about the skin though, do I do it zombie grey or use a darker brown scheme?

Once I've got a solid basecoat I'm going to give it a Scorched Brown wash then go over it with a Graveyard Earth/Khaki/bleached bone mix. Once that's done I'll pick out all the detailing and begin weathering the armour before fully Nurglefying it.

Any suggestions at this stage welcome. :(

Some awesome, inspiring conversions as usual Doghouse. Love the gothic DG troopers, very subtle and nurgley at the same time. Looking foward to seeing the off-white scheme, think thats the same kinda thing I'm gonna go for with my DG.

As for the DP...phenomenal! All I can say is good luck with the painting, rather you than me!

Love the look of those DG,can just imagine them striding across the field of battle wi lasbolts bouncing off there armor! Glad your not going the total bloated look! Thats gonna be a sweet squad once done,as for the DP i like where you are going with the colorscheme! Keep us updated! :)

Thanks guys! :)

Quick update...

I've basecoated the skin areas in Codex Grey/Shadow Grey mix. I'll be going over it with Codex grey and highlighting with Fortress grey as I'm going for a zombie kind of look to him.

The guts and muscles showing through with be darkened with inks and I may try and make the skin look a bit more mottled if possible. I'll try and get a properly lit shot at some point so that the colours are clearer. :D

Don't play/paint chaos so I can't offer any advice on that, but one thing I do know is that as an Imperial Fists SM player that'd be the first thing I'd shoot at because it looks so imposing. Maybe that plays to your advantage, because players forget the rest of the army?

The DG look good too, they look warlike rather than the normal moldy and squishy DG look....which is good.

Edit: On second thoughts, maybe add a small hanging cloth thing at the stomach/mechanical join, that hangs below the stomach and in between the legs?

Also have you considered using those plastic WFB ogre minis for some use in your army, the circle metal plate things they have could easily have that three circle symbol added to them and the heads could be converted to be very chaosy.....perhaps huge plague bearers or terminators (if they had plates sculpted on)

BTW where's that skull you used for a shoulder pad from? and what is it of.... dragon, chaos thing?

Thanks guys!

I've started playing around with the skin using a wash of watered down green ink which I will build up slowly and blend in to hopefully give him a mottled look I spoke of earlier.

The armoured sections have been given a progressive drybrush of Kommando khaki then inked with a watered down brown ink. I still have to add all the weathering and go over the tubes, hydraulics, etc. Basically he's not looking too Nurgley right now but will do when he's finished (I hope).

Lighting is making it difficult to see the true colours but it's slowly getting there. :)

Firehawk: Thanks for the tips, I may have to try some of those ideas later. :)

Cheers guys. :)

Nephren-ka: I think I'm already in over my head, the lure of chaos is always tempting for us conversion nuts.

Mertio23: Not sure about going to off white at the moment, I've been toying around with making them a traitor chapter rather than the Death Guard and creating my own colour scheme/heraldry.

Not completely sure yet though. :)

Thanks mate, I'll try my best. :P

Speaking of which I've decided after a lot of thought that I'm going to do my own traitor chapter rather than the good old DG. The reason being is that it gives me more creative license to play around with the models and have fun with the army.

The rough outline I have at the moment is that they are an Imperial Fists successor chapter called the Manticores. In short they have taken the self punishing aspect of the Fists to the extreme, initially this was through physical endurance and overcoming pain. This later lead to the rather unpleasant ritual of infecting themselves with highly contagious viruses in order to overcome them and prove their resiliance and lead to their eventual downfall to Nurgle.

I'm going for a tan coloured armour with white and red checkers like this on the shoulder pads:

Overlaying the checks in black will be their chapter icon of the lion's head as shown in this quick sketch I made.

It's looking great! I like that fact that fact that the shoulderpad is so colourful and stands out from an otherwise muted miniature. Have to say though, don't like the lion's head, doesn't seem to match with the mutated/nurgly theme..would look great on an empire knight though ;)
