Metal-themed Slaanesh army

my only dislike is the DP. I think it doesn't suit 40k at all.

@AlteriusMotive: but he looks like (is?) eddie from iron madien. you don't get more metal than iron madien! ;)

@mortarion: is there anything you don't do well? :P

this army is fantastic. i love the goats head sign beiung made with the powerfist. i want to see a squad made up with the members metallica, circa 'Kill em all'.

keep up the great work.

Bandwidth usage is well within limits so I thought I could speed this up a bit and bring you...

PART 2 - TROOPS

Yes, I promised Iron maiden. But people wanted instruments so I changed the order a bit. And this part does contain some Iron maidens...

Templars of Steel - Noise marines

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/sonic01.jpg

Noise marines with sonic weapons. And a daemonic speaker spawn. (More on this later...)

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/sonic02.jpg

Sonic blasters. As I said in the beginning, one of the purposes of the army was to bring back the guitar-looking sonic blasters. They took a lot of work to build. Basically they are made from plasticard with greenstuffed strings and a few bits. The speakers are daemon heads from the vehicle accessory sprue that have been cut in half and rebuilt with green stuff. The wires are guitar strings, what else?

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/sonic03.jpg

A headbanging marine. This might not be the greatest picture, though...

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/sonic04.jpg

The blastmaster. If a sonic blaster is a guitar, then a blast master must be a... bass! And the marine has been gifted by Slaanesh with a mutated hand for some truely gifted playing.

Also notice the unit's champion on the right. He is trashing his sonic blaster against the speaker. This means it can no longer function as a sonic blaster but works perfectly as a Great weapon!

And here is the speaker. From the start of the army I knew that I wanted big speakers and amps with my marines. But for a long time I didn't know what to use them as in game terms. But then I got an idea about how failed roadies where sucked into the speakers as punishment for their imperfection. Soon the speakers became filled with souls and started to mutate and take a life of their own. The Daemonic speaker spawns were born!

I wanted them to look like giant mutated speakers with souls desperately trying to escape. A lot of inspiration were taken from the monolith in Hellraiser III. As they needed to be able to move I also took some inspiration from the Luggage (discworld) and gave them small feet. This is one of the spawns. Another is coming up later.

Another angle of the same spawn.

The Iron Maidens - Daemonette groupies

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/daem-IM.jpg

Every band needs groupies! Some of the few unconverted models in the army. I really like the models and didn't feel that they needed any work. I just added some hair on a few of them.

Some closeups.

The Twisted sisters - Daemonette groupies

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/daem-TS.jpg

Yes, the name isn't really heavy metal. But it is such a fitting name for daemonettes and it is not far of.

Allthough it is kinda hard to see on this picture, the severed head is actually smiling.

That's all for now. Coming up next time... Iron maiden references and roadies!

Wicked cool. Love it all, the spawn is a great touch.

What I want to see now is some booze and drugs. Maybe another spawn could be a mutated pusher, with extra orifices to facilitate more rabid drug ingestion?

(Then again, I realise that drugs aren't unique or ubiquitous to metal, or aprorpriate to all play environements. But you already got the sex and rock n roll going...)

You also need a drummer... how about a dreadnaught with sonic weapon zildjans and a double bass warp amp?

the spawn is pretty cool, well done. i still dont see the connection with EC and heavy metal.

your thinking to broadly. he started this all based off the orginal noise marine model which had a cool guitar sonic blaster. that all. he took an idea and ran with it. looking good too. lets see more

What I want to see now is some booze and drugs.
Just wait...

i still dont see the connection with EC and heavy metal.

As Nephren-ka said, it is all based upon the original noise marine model. And I thought it would be a cool theme.

But it might not be totally acurate with the later background of the EC... The army is more of a fun project then my view of a typical EC force.

Well, I guess I will throw my hat in the ring here. Good job, well done, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Its a sweet looking army and one you can be really proud of.

Holds lighter in right hand and flicks . . .

So, time for...

PART III - More Troops!

Disposable Heroes - Roadies

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/roadies01.jpg

OK, so we got the band, we got the mascot and we got the groupies. What more is needed? Roadies of course! Who else would set up the amps, carry the beer and shoot lascannon? In game terms they are still noise marines, but in terms of painting they have a blue chestplate instead of purple.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/ro02.jpg

The roadie champ. I really like this model. The brand of the beer is... Chaosberg! "Sometimes the best beer in the universe"

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/ro03.jpg

The lascannon gunner and a "normal" roadie. The model on the right is propably my favourite model in the entire army. I don't know why but it is just something in his expression. He looks like he is really hung over, has to hurry to get the speaker he's carrying installed... and then some Imperialists tries to stop him and tell him that they play to loud! The look is propably more coincidence then me planning it but I still like it.

The Troopers - CC squad

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/troopers01.jpg

A close combat squad. I wanted them to be very different from the chosen. The chosen have fancy, elaborate weapons and shiny stuff. Theese guys have improvised weapons and a more grittier look.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/tr02.jpg

The champion and his hound. The enemy just told him that metal is dead and they should get a haircut. He answers with the finger. The advantage with powerfists are that gestures tend to look quite exaggerated and funny...

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/tr03.jpg

Close combat marines with improvised weapons. From left to right - A broken bottle, a torn up street sign (the crossing of Acacia avenue and Rue morgue) and a baseball bat.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/tr04.jpg

Doom sirens. This was an attempt to paint chrome SENMM. Allthough I'm not sure how well I succeeded with the chrome look, I still liked the look of it and kept it.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/tr05.jpg

The icon. Painted to look like the cover of the Iron Maiden album "Live after death".

Rhino tour bus

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/trrhino01.jpg

Again, I wanted it to look different from the Chosen rhino. The extra armour is crudely welded om steel plates rather then manufactured extra armour. But it does have cool flames!

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/trrhino02.jpg

The top hatch. I noticed how Iron maiden covers were a lot harder to paint then Manowar ones.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h233/Bulonicus/Metal/trrhino03.jpg

The Noise marine version of the Iron Maiden logo. The other door has the tour dates but they look very similar to the chosen ones.

OK. That's all for now. Stay tuned for the final part sometime next week.

This is ridiculously good! As a HUGE metal fan, I've always wanted to see someone go to town with Noise Marines and you sir, have done it. They really have a cracked-out 80's metal feel to them. I can hear the power-metal "wailing" vocals from here! How about incorporating Anthrax if you decide to expand? They are classic 80's metal to be sure! A FIST FULL OF METAL!!! Absolutely well done!
