Alright, I hate to do this, but I'm not going to be able to make the deadline for this stage. Remember how my USB cable had gone missing? Yeah, turns out the dog had it. He had it into pieces >.<

So, because the nearest electronics store is about an hour away, and I don't have my own vehicle to take, I can't get a new one until Monday, at the earliest. If I don't have it by then, I'm afraid I'll have to drop out u.u

That's okay; sounds like a problem at any rate. Let me know when you will be able to return, as we might find a way to do all the missing stages faster for you, so you can catch up with the others, should you feel like it...

Hey, I have the model undercoated and ready to paint, but the cameras batterys dead. I'm about to get the bus into town to grab some new ones, so I should have my pics up by about 6-7pm (it's 2pm here atm).

edit**

Sorry, the pics are a bit poo...

I had to undercoat after work, when it was pitch black, in a shed outside, so I don't think it turned out that bad, although saying that, I can see that its a bit patchy on the back of the model. I didn't quite get total coverage, but I'm hoping that it can be fixed with the base coat.

Okay. so far, we have Bloodwraith and Angel Robinson who have completed stage 2 on time (nice catching up Angel Robinson). Which leaves the rest of you to enter your stage 2 pictures asap!

Daedalin, Master Chaplain Astador, Omnius, Barret, Radu Lykan and Granis; your stage 1 pictures have not yet been received. You have till next wednesday to submit them, or we will be forced to take anyone not submitting before then out of the program! Feel free to also post your stage 2 pictures; they were due yesterday.

So, please have all your stage 1 and 2 pictures posted by Wednesday November 1st!

Driseamail; you can easily touch up the missing areas if your mini with black paint and a brush. I always do that when checking a mini for full coverage. I never pull off complete coverage when spraying either...

Ah, my apologies, I misunderstood. I was under the impression that stage two was undercoating in black or white with spray or by hand. Since I (and everyone else, almost) has done this, and it is would seem to not be the appropriate step, it must be basecoating that was due on saturday.

But this would seem to be in opposition with what is posted on the front page. Some clarification? Had I thought that basecoating was due on saturday and not undercoating, I would have done it.

I think some communication has been lost along the way...

Regardless, I'm gonna basecoat now.

my pics are on page 6?????

I think you need to confirm what the stages are, you dont seem to be sticking to the stages set out int the first post. Stage 2 is undercoating, and as far as I can tell everyone has done this.

You are absolutely right; my bad (again B) ). With some lagging behind and some racing ahead, it's not always clear if we have every nose in the right direction at times, confusing even me.

So yeah; basecoating = stage 2. Sorry for the mixup...

My apologies, daeothar & the other instructors.

RL has reared its ugly head and I will not be able to continue.

Thank you for your assistance and I wish everyone the best. I look forward to reading this thread when I am able to.

Sorry to hear that. Feel free to participate if we do another one of these classes though.

try chopping that ugly head off and continuing

sorry to lose another classmate, hopefully when you get a chance to read the finshed product it will help you with your painting.

+++++++++++++++

as it seems that I may have to paint my basecoat sharpish, does anyone have any tips on basecoating? I will be painting scaly green over black, how thin should my paint be? the same as for undercoating? How many coats? is there anything I can do whilst basecoating that will make shading/highlighting easier later on?

Are we including basing in this little boot camp as well? I am also not sure how much to proceed with basecoating. So far the red and green has been basecoated as they are most prominent! But there is the DA icon and eagle plus gun and metalics!

AR

We will cover basing as well, in one of the later stages (10). When we said basecoating, it was meant to cover just the armour. The rest, like markings, pouches, guns, etc will be covered in later stages as well. they will be tackled the same basic way; basecoating, shading, highlighting but on a smaller scale, which could be covered in one stage, as the examples and advice for doing up the armour parts will already be available...

I have completed stage one(post pics of cleaned mini) and stage 2(undercoating) when is stage 3(basecoating) starting/finishing?

if I am reading everything correctly, then some how we skipped from having to have the model undercoated to basecoating without any notification, nor was there any helpful info about basecoating.

if the model has to be basecoated today then I am afraid I will have to pull out as am currently doing 2 jobs and will be working all day and this evening. :(

can somebody clarify for me?

Ahoy,

FINALLY found my camera cable. Here's my phase 2 pic.

Sorry for the craptastic pic, I haven't set up a proper photo-taking place in my new place yet.

Cheers,

Barret

yeah, so, despite the unmentioned shift of undercoating to basecoating, I've gotten it done. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting to have to take a picture of it so soon, so my camera has been lent to a friend. It will be another day or two before I can get pics of my basecoating.

I to would like some tips on basecoating, I am doing blazing orange over white, and also some golden yellow. I know these are both difficult colours to paint so any help would be great.

As long as you thin down your paints enough and paint on several thin layers instead of one thick one, you should be fine. Don't be surprised if it takes you 5 layers to get a nice and even basecaot. Hang in there, the end result more then makes up for this :cuss .

I can tell you how I did my DA, which was actually simple.

I undercoated black. Then I basecoated with a 50/50 mix of black and DA Green. Highlights were done with 3/4 DA Green and 1/4 black (right onto the basecoat) , then straight DA Green and then up to 50/50 DA Green and White on the highest highlights. I did go back and apply straight black washes in the nooks and crannies to make the transitions smoother.

A quite simple scheme that is really effective too. One of these actually made first cut at the UK Golden Daemons this year (little did they know :) )

Here's an example of some marines painted like this:
