Flint13
That's awesome. Thanks Heinrich! In the second pic from Massacre, his kneepads and shoulder pad trim look matte gray/black to me . Is it just a super dull bronze color? Maybe I'm just starting to get old But in the top and bottom, those are *definitely* bronzey/gold trim pieces, you are correct. Thanks again! That makes painting these guys *hella* more simple. Brother Heinrich
No problem sister, I think it's just washed out bronze in the middle picture, the light bloom makes it hard to tell. Keep up the good work though, really looking forward to see how you execute the paint job on that Chaplain now that you've got your colors sorted out. Brother Ambroz
Definitely looks bronze to me as well but if you want to go for something different with black trim I'd go for it, but I think you'd definitely need something in there to contrast the dark colors. A color change up could do a good job to differentiate him as a chaplain too, maybe try painting his helmet yellowish white like a skull? Flint13
Haha, yeah I blame it on either my monitor or me not wearing my contacts when I forum surf. Whoops! Right now I'm planning on my chaplain being mostly black with gray highlights, with a bone helm, red eye lenses and a single red shoulder pad. I'll also play around with various mixes of badab/nuln and agrax to see what I can do to dull down that bronzy color. We'll see how that business turns out by tomorrow! Brother Ambroz
Sounds good, but for the bronze, try sepia and agrax/devlan. That should dull it down quite a bit. Flint13
Alrighty, I'll be the first to admit that Cataphractii terminators have *way* more detail to them that I originally anticipated. So, terminator chaplain is about 1/2 way done. In the mean time, here are my first three raptors that I have finished painting in the interim. I *love* raptors, even though I have never seen the Nightlords as the "Raptor Legion." They just do them better than everyone else. First on the walls and all that Anyway I have 20 in my 2k list for 40k and when Forgeworld releases those gorgeous Night Raptor models to us teeming masses, I'll be first in line. So, after spending entirely too much time on organizing my photobucket today, here are the fruits of my Raptory labors. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070027_zps66a387d6.jpg Above is my very first nightlord painted in the "new" color scheme I've been working on. Ie, the first one with actual highlights. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070044_zpsf32df156.jpg This is one of my "original" Nightlords for comparison purposes. While he isn't *gawdaweful* I think we can all agree there has been definite improvement. Anywho, back to more Raptors! http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070026_zps470b7bfa.jpg BAM! Close up. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070030_zps2c3c32df.jpg And his best bro, topknot guy. I have an unfortunately predilection for topknots... http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070034_zps8756c117.jpg Here's the aspiring champion. He has a little axe http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070037_zps3f45e102.jpg A little close up for a tad more detail on his terror marking. Still working on getting better at those. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070035_zps7cedd76e.jpg And his legion insignia. Not sure why he looks really glossy in this one. Only his eyes and the pendant on his chest are glossed. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9070041_zpsb6df7881.jpg And a bro-tasitic group shot! So! Definitely feel free to yell helpful things at them. I'm certainly still in the learning stages, but seem to be improving bit by bit. Brother Ambroz
Great work for your first time highlighting. They look dirty too, in a good way so hopefully that was your intention. A few things I can see that you can work on highlighting with, the winged skull could use a few red higlights on the wings' ridges and maybe a few highlights on the skull itself. The metallics could use some highlights as well, but I'm pretty horrible so far with metallics myself so I can't offer too much aid there. Great job though and hope to see more soon. Flint13
Sounds fair. As a first foray into highlighting, metallics are still something I'm playing with. I did run a small "highlight" of Runelord Brass over the highest edges (without washing it down) but it is hella subtle and doesn't show up so hot. So my second try was using slim lines of Ironbreaker. Let me know if this looks any better. http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/4cdca5f4-6d8d-4732-87c5-dc385ce75910_zpsf1d26c16.jpg Also, Legion freehand until my Forgeworld shoulder pads come in http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b533/Flint1324/P9080049_zps1624abb1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/274484-nox-saeva-vociferatius-nightlords-at-their-most-primal/page/3/#findComment-3490513 Share on other sites
