Captain_Volos
Hey Guys, So I get some people asking me how I paint my Black Armour, and it is indeed a hard colour to paint. In my opinion it is tougher than almost any other colour, because you have to be precise. My style is simple, actually, though a bit more time consuming. Its perfect for painting guys in assembly line, however. Example (Jet Black and my Black) http://s11.postimg.org/tjo9g7xxf/2013_12_10_16_37_02.jpg Step 1 For step one, just prime the model black. I use GW's can of primer, but any black should do, not a big deal. http://s11.postimg.org/x4k4zg2gz/2013_12_10_17_00_17.jpg Step 2 Step two, paint your model Eshin Grey. Eshin Grey is the darkest Grey in the GW range, and will be easier to darken. http://s29.postimg.org/teqz14ahj/2013_12_10_17_20_14.jpg Step 3 For the final step, begin washing your model with layers of Nuln Oil (Black Wash). I find that 3 washes are prime. Make sure to shake your Nuln Oil well before applying! If you do not, the model may come out glossy, which I learned the hard way. Even if he does, to remove gloss add a layer of Lahmian Medium. Its essentially colourless paint. This probably works for any gloss problems any of you may have. http://s29.postimg.org/sny8vc847/2013_12_11_20_30_55.jpg Results http://s30.postimg.org/cteaocd29/2013_12_11_22_58_37.jpg http://s27.postimg.org/q0dui3ldv/2013_12_11_22_57_13.jpg Thanks for checking out my tutorial guys, let me know if you like it. majzackbro
Hey man. I'm currently starting an army of Raven Guard Marines. Still new to this whole thing and am choosing a canon chapter for the moment. Been looking around for some "Painting black" techniques and yours is like "WOW" just "WOW". Thanks a lot. Will give it a shot after i get a pot of Eshin Grey Quick question, did you do any additional line-highlighting or anything like that? I find that incredibly difficult to do at my current skill level :\
Sadistic Imp
Also just wanted to raise a question on this one if you don't mind. The wash, was it a full body wash or just a more controlled, precise wash into the recesses? Thanks - Imp
ThatOneMarshal
Huh, Amazing I came out with a strategy like this for painting my black templars however I use vallego paints, this is what I use: 1: Prime black with gw spray 2: Use Vallejo Black Grey 3: Then a shade of vallejo black

Azzagorn
I have the older verisons of the paints and inks what would be the best way to get similar results using Codex grey? Or Asterminum grey?
casb1965
Well that's decided the way I'm going to paint my Deathwatch :)
Captain_Loken
Absolutely beautiful. A well deserved spot in the Black Legion for him, sir. However, I do have a question. Can this be done the same exact way you explain it, but on the spurs itself? I find painting on the sprues before putting them together to be far easier. Adeptus-Alaska
wow nice, back in the day I used to use cacharadon granite and then use P3 armouir wash until i was happy with it.
M@verik115
What I do is base the model black, do a boltgun metal layer and then do a 50:50 mix nuln oil and black ink (actual black ink) wash. Its very easy, quick and gives a nice metallic black finish.
