  1. Funnily, the TDA Ancient is actually quite good in the DWCS. They will have 3OC per model that can't be shocked away (1 through DA base rules, 1 through the Ancient that's part of the CS, and 1 through the attached Ancient leader), +1 to hit on an almost universally 3+ hit profile once a model is dead, and they have access to FnP enhancement through the Ancient. Couple this with the Apo bringing back models and the defensive strats the DA have, throw in a TDA Captain and I think you'll have an amazing midfield objective camper that can shoot away chaff and kill big stuff on the charge.
  2. So I was thinking of using a DWCS with TDA Captain and Ancient. Captain provides charge rerolls (which pairs well with the charge bonus of the Champion) and 0CP strats. Ancient with Enchancement provides a FnP, +1OC (with the DA base rule and the Ancient in the CS, that is a 3OC for the unit that can't be Battle-shocked away), +1 to hit (which is amazing for all the 3+ profiles) once one member is missing and +1 to wound once half a missing. Given that the DA seem to want to do Objective play, I'd actually want some dakka in the unit, so that they can shoot back with the strat (one model dies, they shoot back for 1 or even 0 CP with +1 hit). Plus, they can be quite deadly on the charge. At 5 dudes plus 2 characters it'll be just over 400 points. Around 630(?) If you go for a full 10man squad. I think that's going to be an amazing midfield anchor.
  3. @Cruor Vault I completely missed that Dreads aren't vehicles. Uuuh, that means that I can play my infantry + dread marching list that I like in 40k. Still a shame that Logos is so meh, but maybe it'll surprise me. Rhinos are pretty decent with UM, I would assume. They tag units for the Legion Tactics and have all that usual utility. MSU also seems like a good choice, because you have more tagging units. By the way, yet another thread infected with the italics. I am getting some serious nurgle vibes here.
  4. If you can manage to magnetise the cyclones, then there is no reason not to make some. You could make a fully customisable TDA unit that can get a host of different weapons and potentially cyclones on top. That's much easier than it sounds, if a little tedious. Still, for 10 TDA, why not. Also, italics gang 4lyf \m/
  5. How many Warders would you run in Stone Gauntlet? I am gravitating towards two units of 15. Three special weapons per unit. Not too large or unwieldy and still pack a punch. Slap in Rann or a Boarding Shield character and enjoy. I feel like units of 20 are overkill while units of 10 are not enough.
  6. What's the consensus on vehicles in UM. The Logos ROW and Bobby G give their bonuses exclusively to infantry. How would the various Dreads, the new Kratos and the host of other tanks fit in here? The main synergy I see so far is that a small unit or a rhino can "mark" a unit and the big boys unleash their dakka with hit bonus. Alternatively, you could scrap the aggressive vehicles and focus on various transports instead. Do you have any ideas on how to implement tanks?
  7. Impulsors can be decent, if you take one or two. They protect a key unit from one turn of shooting and they can act as a roadblock against more aggressive armies. Must-take? Nah. Decent option? Sure.
  8. That's like saying "why would IG field Guardsmen when Intercessors are much better?". I don't think that inter-army comparisons are the best metric. Besides, we all know that DE in general and Dark Lances in particular are overtuned. With all the point adjustments, I can think of a fun RG list. Do a long-ranged army with Eliminators, Thunderstrikes, etc. Hide the speeders behind terrain, move up to remove obscuring and still benefit from Stealth via the CT. Not DE level of quality, but it sounds quite cool to me.
  9. The issue is that it is a 10 wound vehicle with T6, no invul and isn't Core, so no consistent rerolls for all those low shot high power guns. Not so say that it is bad, especially after the reduction. However, it competes against things that are just better. Competitively, you can do better with attack bikes or even ATVs. Completely useless? Hell no. Just not optimal. Shouls that stop you? No. Attack bikes look weird anyway.
  10. Gravis jump pack melee dreadnoughts with twin melta flamers. Get it right. The Intervenerator Incendiblaster squad. True classic.
  11. Good question. My first thought was something alongside of Core -> Super Core, like with some ObSec rules models counting twice. The issue is that Core is a recipient of many different buffs and not just one rule like ObSec. The other issue is that whatever additional buff I can think off seems very arbitrary, mainly because the choice of what is Core and what isn't is arbitrary to begin with. What makes a unit "more Core"?
  12. @ space wolf - At that rate you won't be needing opponents. They are all modelled on your bases already.
  13. Forget high end competitiveness when choosing an army. These things change and will prevent you from ever making a solid choice. ESPECIALLY if this is your first army. Like Wolves? Go Wolves! Wanna have a different colour? Do a different colour! Don't like melee too much and wanna go all sneaky-like? Go for the hunter-stalking-prey theme! Incidentally, this is how actual wolf packs hunt. They rarely engage in direct fights, unless their den is threatened. Just because it says melee on the box doesn't mean that all they do. All Marines are capable of solid melee so those buffs will never go to waste. Besides, once you have a sizeable collection, who says that you won't expand into melee stuff? Finally, once you built your Wolves, you can sometimes use Raven Guard rules for them. Trust me, any one who calls you out on it is probably not worth playing against anyway. Tl,dr: DO IT!
  14. What weapons would work well on Suppressors I wonder? We have Hellblasters and Inceptors for plasma, Eradicators for Melta and Eliminators for Las fusils. The Primaris line is pretty well loaded with high ROF anti-infantry weapons. Suppressors look like Outriders. A decent unit hamstrung by lack of options and a fixed 3-man squad size. I am pretty sure GW can think of a silly name for a new gun. The Incubator Heat Rifle? Invalidator Las Stubber? I'd love a close combat unit, but as mentioned above, probably will be a separate datasheet, should it ever happens.
  15. The ability is tied to the Chapter Ancient chapter command upgrade. So yes, it would apply if you upgrade your TDA Ancient. No banner grants +1 to hit. Both the Chapter Ancient and the BGA have it as their ability, irrespective of what relic banner they may carry. However, if +1 hit in the fight phase banners is a burning yet unfulfilled desire in your life, then look no further than the IF relic The Banner of Staganda, which does just that for IF Core and Characters within 6".
