Incredible.

Procrastinating from editing is a terrible thing - I just search all my novels for "swayed aside" and didn't find a single instance, proud I do however seem to use "for a moment" or "in a moment" a great deal. It'll be editorially purged from here on in.

A Brother's Confession and a taste of RobMac's Ultramarines

Re. the age debate, no Ultramarine characters outside the Fulminata are mentioned, except Guilliman and a few "historical" Ultramarines. -

Not to take my word on here as lore, but I think it's pretty generally accepted that the Codex-standard "1000 Space Marines per Chapter" is correctly defined as "1000 combat-effective battle-brothers." So no, not including vehicle drivers, auxiliary command staff, ect. -

Alas no. Voitekans, Zoishens, Namarians, Pyran Flamers, Kelestan Stormers, Faeburn Vanquishers and Vostroyans among others, but no Auxilia. This campaign is outside Ultramar. -

This one is just Primaris (and Imperial Guard), hoping to deal with the regular v. Primaris situation in any sequels, assuming people like the first book enough. -

50 extra Marines existing outside the formal structure of the Chapter organized into a strike force...wow quite a radical departure from the codex. Though it does make sense since Guilliman did mention he was going to make major revisions to the Codex Astartes. Yep. The arrival of the Primaris is going to subvert a Chapter's Codex structure no matter what, either adding them to the companies brings them over 100 Space Marines, or forming new companies pushes them over ten in a Chapter. The Fulminata ("Thunderbolts") are a composite strike force outside the usual ten-company structure. I explore the impact all this change has on Ultramarine philosophy a bit, there's essentially a split between old and new, with a lot of the previous command echelons none too pleased with the new additions, which are understandably championed by the Primaris. -

Glad folks think I've not disgraced the Chapter. Regarding "differentiation," although the novel is about Kastor and Polixis adventures, I wanted to bring the whole company (or in this case, a demi-company of five squads of Primaris) into play as much as possible, so there's quite a lot going on with the captain, lieutenant, a bunch of sergeants and a very grumpy reiver. It's not quite Gaunt's Ghosts level of awesome interactions across a regiment, but by the end hopefully you have a flavour of a lot of different characters. Objective achieved. Next up, "a lot" -
They are super-cool, and I recently re-read Helsreach, plus it seems I do love pushing back that Imperial Guard novel I want to write with countless other novels, so who knows? As in, post Fall of Cadia or am I missing something?

If the other option was annihilation, would your decision be the same? Slave to malignant gods or Xenos? There are examples of Chaos leaning cultures that are no worse than the Imperium, there are examples even in Old Night, of Cultures existing that were not Imperial. And if it came down to eternity of suffering and slavery to the Imperium and Ignorance, or going out fighting with a chance for freedom? Well you are dead regardless, fight to be free. There are also Imperial worlds that do just fine, some that offer an even better quality of life than Earth does today. I think the ratio of good-to-bad favours the Imperium over Chaos pretty easily. That being said it's a lot easier to say Chaos is bad when we're looking at it with full knowledge of the subject from outside the setting.

Yes indeedy. And I do have a novel tie-in short coming out on the 17th, but sadly it's not Carcharodon related... in other news, apparently Pert's voice actor is Andrew Wincott, who also voices Adam in the Archers. Who knew?
-
I'm pretty sure (99%) it's Steve Conlin, he's got a very distinct accent and has been a regular on Black Library's Audiodrama rosta for a few years now I should really know this sort of stuff by now, Steve also voice Gydrael in my only other audio drama to date.

The audio team really nailed the ending, definitely. I've had a few people asking who voiced Pert, I've passed the question on so will hopefully be able to fully credit him soon.
