About this blog
I’m using this facility to record my musings and experience in trying to make a fun alternative clan of Orks who aren’t particularly slaves to lore but nod toward the 1st and 2nd edition beginnings.
I enjoy “The Ork Way” as described in 2nd edition. They are carefree and don’t try to influence their own destiny and if things fail, they just try something different.
Being a man of limited imagination I thought it would be fun to copy our cultural references onto the Orks. We all know that Orks are the violent hooligans of 40k so I was instantly reminded of the Clockwork orange and the striking visual of the Droogs. I was also drawn to the previous Combat Patrol with Def Kopters and a Mech. Those models reminded me of Bonds Little Nellie and the Lifting equipment/mech suit used by Ripley in Aliens.
So the idea came to me that at some point a clan of Orks came across an old human space ship or settlement that had a VHS player and library of tapes (Planet of the Apes style) and were so entertained by the Brutal and cunning of some of those movie characters that, separated from regular lore they developed their own.
So far Boyz will be Droogs. They liked the colour white, it stands out clearly for the enemy to engage in more Krumping rather than skulking in the shadows with black or a legendary colour that makes you invisible. They don’t go for adornments because such things allow their foe to grab on and become a nuisance.
Obviously Ripley was well good at killing Tyranids so there’s that.
Little Nellie won in the air.
When I expand I will get some Stormboyz who seem to be a good fit for Napoleonic Cavalry so I’m thinking Skotz Graze (The Royal Scots Greys). Classic British cavalry in red with grey mounts.
Whilst there are a lot of movie mechs for the Deff Dred they are mostly grey (Im thinking Ed209 in Robocop) which aren’t terribly colourful so I’m thinking Mobile Suit Gundam.
In the interests of daftness Gretchin will either be Clowns or Chickens.
Well, here goes…
